“Imagine you had to design a society without knowing your own place in it... Would you design one where a tiny elite accumulates unimaginable wealth while a third of children grow up in poverty?” – Kate Pickett of @equalitytrust #LSEInequalitiesBlog buff.ly/b9HVVJq

We asked our supporters who they'd hypothetically vote for in the Gorton and Denton by-election and a general election. 1/3 said they prioritised voting against a disliked party. This week we're asking what you'd do with the House of Lords. Vote now: equalitytrust.org.uk/weekly-…

"Around 1/10 of Britain’s land has been privatised since 1979. Now if councils want to buy land back they are charged extortionate prices shaped by speculation and scarcity, making it harder for them to afford to build social homes," said Hollie Wright. inews.co.uk/news/politics/la…

Maybe you're doing dry January, Veganuary, or trying something else to live a little better this month. You know who isn't? The richest. The UK's richest produced more carbon in 8 days than 50% of the population use in a year.

With a single change, this government will lift hundreds of thousands of kids out of poverty. Scrapping the two-child limit will lift was the best thing to come out of the last budget - and we should never go back.
The Chancellor has defended her decision to scrap the two-child limit on benefits, telling @GMB all children deserve a "fulfilling life" regardless of "however many brothers and sisters" they have 👏

California wants to tax billionaires with a 5% wealth tax and the CEO of Nvidia, who would have to pay $8 billion on his $163 billion fortune, says it like it is: that's perfectly fine! 🧵

The average FTSE 100 CEO is making 113 times the median full-time worker's wage – but why rely on averages? Our calculator can tell you exactly how long it'll take a CEO to get paid your salary 🫵 It'll be depressing but you want to know, right?

🐱 Happy Fat Cat Day! We’re less than a week into January & FTSE CEOs have already earned what the average worker will in the year. And if a 113:1 pay disparity feels outrageous, remember: the richest 10% pay less of their income in taxes (39%) than the poorest 10% (48%) too.

I can't believe privatised water would fail us in this way. Surely South East Water, which spent more on debt and dividends than infrastructure, is not to blame
Kent water failure was foreseen and could have been stopped, regulator says Problem at water treatment centre left 24,000 Tunbridge Wells homes without drinking water for two weeks theguardian.com/business/202…

What do you do when CEO pay is so out of control that your boss is paid your whole year's wage in just 29 hours? Tax it. High Pay Centre's proposal would progressively increase a company's corporation tax the more the CEOs is overpaid. Sign now: you.38degrees.org.uk/p/fatca…

🗓️ One year since @BhamCityCouncil attempted to take £8k a year from its bin workers 🪧 One year of strikes 🐀 One year of rats & rubbish in the streets of Birmingham 🤯 One year of chaos & incompetence from council leaders & commissioners ⏰ Time for Birmingham Council to get in a room & Birmingham working again.

The media wants you to be angry about people on benefits potentially receiving more than the average full-time worker. (They don't anyway, because the calculations were based on something like a family of 6 with 4 severely disabled kids claiming every benefit available including ones that can't be claimed simultaneously). In reality, this is the real problem and it's proof that trickle down simply does not work. At least not for ordinary citizens.
As you're reading this — literally right now — FTSE 100 CEOs have just been paid as much as an entire year's wage for the median full time worker. After just a couple of days back. I haven't even cleared my inbox yet.

HPC data shows the FTSE 100 CEO just over two days to earn the median UK worker’s full time annual salary. Average CEO pay is £4.4m — 113× the median worker’s salary of £39,039. With long-term wage stagnation, how can this possibly be justified? highpaycentre.org/fat-cat-da…
