Here's a look at the new Philips (TP Vision) smart tv OS. It's a new, faster and more content oriented version of their Saphi OS. Philips plans to put it in more models, so next years you may see more of this and less Android tv.

For the avoidance of any doubt: Yes, the basic and ad-supported Netflix plans will from now on get you 720p "HD" but for true HD (1080p) you'll need to pay more and for 4K/HDR you'll have to take the Premium plan. flatpanelshd.com/news.php?su… via @Flatpanels

This is a black-and-white photo; only the lines have colour. 😲 Great illustration of a general truth: Your perceptual system fills in the gaps in the incomplete data from your senses. sciencealert.com/crazy-optic…

Well, it was an absolute delight reviewing the #Panasonic #55LZ2000. Not only is it very bright, but it's also very accurate and has excellent sound. Take some time to read the full review: bit.ly/3Eh4oFI

Wow, the #Panasonic TX-55LZ2000 is really bright. Easy 1000 nits in HDR Filmmaker Mode. 1/2

The #Panasonic LZ2000 beats the QD-OLEDs in peak brightness, except on a full white window (180 vs 210 nits). That's peak white of course. Primary colour brightness is still a clear win for QD-OLED. 2/2

The #Hisense #55U8HQ is a bright and colourful tv with @Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10 that'll be at its best in a well-lit living room. And it's pretty affordable to boot. Read our full review: bit.ly/3UqMzcR

On this day in 1937: J.R.R. #Tolkien's The Hobbit was published. The book tells of a hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, and his journey with thirteen dwarves to recover their treasure from a dragon, Smaug. It's sold over 100 million copies, becoming one of the best-selling books of all time

Fun at the final concert of Praga Khan. One last "Breakfast in Vegas on cocaine and gin"
I've decided I like #TheRingsofPower. Sure, it has its flaws but it certainly looks amazing and I find it compelling enough. Is it canon? Of course not, but I don't care. Yes, I'm a #Tolkien fan, so why don't all the 'mistakes' bother me? 1/n

Here's the thing. The books, that's like Earth-616, the Marvel Main Continuity. This tv-series, I think of as Earth-199999, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They are related, but not the same. The tv-series is inspired by and based upon the works of Tolkien. 2/n

So no, it doesn't have to follow all the strict rules laid out in the #Silmarillion and what little content there is that deals with the Second Age. Some rules can be bent, others can be broken. I do hope they haven't taken that freedom too far though. Let's wait, see and enjoy.

And yes, it can get quite bright. Though the quoted 1300 nits is obviously only possible in 'Crystal Clear' mode (which is the new name for 'Vivid').
