The history of describing Canada as a mosaic is actually kind of interesting. So I'm going to make a thread about it.

He wanted Canada to move beyond both the bicultural and European mosaic models. He advocated for a progressive, race blind, social democracy that provided free education and healthcare with a technocratic bureaucracy based around pure meritocracy that limited capitalism.

Porter partially based his ideas about meritocracy off the United State' assimilation strategy and explicitly made his goal the transformation of Canada into something different from what it had been before.

He neither knows or cares that nobody under the age of 45 believes this, and increasingly many beyond that too. They were spewing this cornball shit my kindergarten in the 1990s. Completely dead, sterile ideology for a brittle Soviet-esque regime.
Carney: Canada is a mosaic, not a melting pot. And this is the distinction that matters. Because a mosaic doesn't dissolve or blend its pieces. Each is stitched to each and all the pieces hold all. And the beauty is in the arrangement, not in the blending.
