This is spot on from @tomloverro. Every company needs to confront the brutal reality that their existing business is not sustainable. If you accept that and embrace all of the hard work required to reinvent your company, the opportunity can be 10x bigger.

The last time we ran a hackathon at @PodiumHQ , it turned into our fastest-growing product in company history. We're doing it again, and this time anyone can compete. A week after ChatGPT launched, we ran an internal hackathon. One team built an AI sales agent that could convert inbound leads into scheduled test drives. That became Jerry. Jerry scaled from $0 to $100M in AI ARR in under 24 months. It all started with a weekend and a team willing to just go build something. We're doing it again. On March 14th, we're opening our doors at our HQ in Lehi, UT for an AI Engineering Hackathon. $10,000 to the winning team. This will be a competitive, invite-only event where you can explore new ideas and push yourself alongside other top engineers. Click below to register. We’re excited to see what you build! One of our best designers told me this week he's having the time of his life. Never had more fun in his entire career because he is now a product builder, not just a designer. The designers enjoying it less are the ones who think of their job as art or craft, not as solving customer problems. The additional product building power is seen as a burden. Design is problem-solving. If AI helps you solve problems faster and more completely, you should be thriving.
I polled PMs, engineers, and designers asking if they are enjoying their job is more or less with the rise of AI. tl;dr The vast majority of people said they are enjoying their job more. However, almost a fifth of designers are enjoying their job less. If you're a designer and feeling this, what's going on?

The dealership software stack is about to collapse into AI agents that actually do the work. No more 15 tools duct-taped together. Had a great convo with @GuyDealership breaking it down šŸ‘‡

One of the most important aspects of @PodiumHQ's transformation has been a supportive board that trusts the Founders to make big bets.
I’ve been in venture capital for ~2 decades and have sat on many boards, and I’ve never seen the kind of transformation @PodiumHQ just engineered: Annual cash burn went from $95M to $0. AI ARR went $0M to $100M — in 21 months. Here’s what happened… @PodiumHQ had built a communications product for small businesses. It worked, but coming out of the ZIRP era, growth was flattening. We were at a critical moment, Pre-ChatGPT: Was the product a nice-to-have or a need-to-have? It was a problem that needed solving. @ericwilliamrea went into Founder Mode to create a clear need-to-have product. Experimenting with AI in 2023 wasn’t controversial. But as board members, we weren’t sure the product would work or the revenue would stick. Would all of these customers churn? Then @PodiumHQ management made the call: invest more time and money into R&D before hyping the product or going big on GTM. In the first three months, something was clearly different. We’d launched plenty of products before. Nothing had ever taken off this fast. As board members, we wondered (as board members tend to do): was there a catch? Nope. And another three months in, still no catch. Just real value. And now, here we are, 21 months later and AI agent ARR rocketed from $0 to $100M, our overall ARR growth rate is way up and @PodiumHQ has gone from burning $95M a year to $0M. That ā€œAI chatbotā€ experiment became @PodiumHQ's top employee, singlehandedly driving $100M in ARR. His name is Jerry. Jerry is a customer service agent for auto, home services & wellness businesses. Customers often walk in asking to speak with him. He has hundreds of 5-star Google reviews. He even won ā€œEmployee of the Monthā€ šŸ˜…Why? Jerry answers text/voice 24/7/365 within ~30 secs. Customers using @PodiumHQ’s Jerry 2.0 are seeing a 30% revenue lift.šŸš€ Not to mention…Jerry 2.0 can be coached up to any subject in ~60 seconds. I couldn’t be more impressed with CEO @ericwilliamrea and the @PodiumHQ team, who understood that the qualities that make a great AI agent are the same as those that make a great human employee: Knowing the job, industry and playbook, can be coached and work tirelessly. No wonder @OpenAI made Jerry 2.0 a case study: Zero to $100M ARR in 21 months, in > 10,000 customer locations. I’ve watched this go from early conviction to undeniable traction. The market is voting. We just crossed $100M in AI agent ARR in under 24 months. Not because of a viral launch or AI hype. But because of a crazy bet we made in 2023. At the end of 2023, over 60k local businesses were using @PodiumHQ to centralize their leads and customer communication into one platform. It’s a great product. Customers convert more leads and make more money with it. But one reality became impossible to ignore: Our customers’ biggest constraint isn’t software. It’s staffing. → 75% annual turnover → 30% of leads come after hours → Every missed call can be $20,000 in lost revenue Business owners don’t care about software. They care about making money. And the best software in the world doesn’t matter if there aren’t enough people to run it. So we built Jerry, the perfect user of our own platform. Not a chatbot. An AI employee that uses Podium to: - Qualify and schedule every lead - Handle objections and follow up - Learn through natural-language coaching - Work 24/7 Demos are easy. Real AI employees are not. To work in the real world, AI has to think, act, understand context, and use tools. It has to handle thousands of edge cases every day. It has to be coachable. Like a human. That leap is enormous. Agents aren’t a feature. They’re the foundation. That’s why we rebuilt Podium as an AI-first system of agents. Today: - 10,000 AI agents live in production - AI now outperforms humans in many jobs - $100M in AI agent ARR, and accelerating This is still day one. The future isn’t software. It's AI employees that do the work and unlock growth for businesses. We’re early in building what we believe will become the most impactful AI employee ecosystem for the $3T SMB market. We’ve seen 300% year-over-year AI revenue growth and we’re just getting started.

Big news at @PodiumHQ today — we just launched a major upgrade to our AI employee: Jerry 2.0. This is the most capable and customizable AI on the market, built to do one thing: make our customers more money. Across the businesses we work with, we’ve learned the biggest constraint isn’t software. It’s people. Labor is expensive and inconsistent. Most teams can’t respond to every lead, call, or message 24/7, let alone follow up proactively. Missed opportunities are costly. More than 10,000 rooftops already use our AI employees to capture leads, book jobs, close sales, and handle complex customer scenarios around the clock. The impact is massive: customers see 30% revenue uplift. With Jerry 2.0, we’re raising the bar again, helping businesses scale and remove constraints that were previously impossible. We built the best off-the-shelf AI employee for every industry we serve, optimized for lead conversion. But every business is different, so we also built the ability for owners to fully customize their AI using plain English. You can coach it to communicate like you and perform like your best rep. You stay in complete control and get more done. Here’s what’s new: • Out of the box expertise trained on your industry from day one • Trainable in plain English. Adjust tone and playbooks just like you would a human employee • Versatile enough to handle every scenario your business encounters • AI Studio makes Jerry’s reasoning transparent and gives owners full control to steer him toward the right responses If your business depends on speed, consistency, and converting every opportunity, this is the best possible agent for you. We’re just getting started. Check out all of Jerry's new capabilities today. podium.com/new-ai-auto?utm_m…

Everything in red is regulated in such a way that market forces don’t apply freely. Blue lines are unencumbered.
JUST OUT: "Chart of the Century" Update through June 2024 based on yesterday's CPI report. A few observations: 1. The cost of Hospital Services continues to rank No. 1 and has escalated significantly in the past few years. 2. College Tuition continues to rise but at a slower rate in recent years. 3. College Textbook costs have been flat for about the last 8 years, thanks to competition and low-cost (or free) alternatives to traditional textbooks. 4. Increases in the prices of New Cars, Household Furnishings, and Clothing have accelerated in recent years.

I appreciate Roger’s perspective, but @PodiumHQ's AI Employee is an excellent example of the massive value that AI is creating today. It's become indispensable to thousands of our local business customers, and we see daily examples of revenue uplift and efficiency gains.
🧵 Today I was on @SquawkStreet on @CNBC to talk about the bubble in AI stocks. @GoldmanSachs put out a report warning capex for AI was way too high, given lack of high value use cases. Goldman is right on, but does not address other crippling issues facing AI. Thread. 1/15
