I see some skills coaches claiming they have give and go elements in unopposed technical drills. Practicing give and go isn’t a technical issue. It’s a tactical issue where the emphasis is on setting it up and leverage it in an opposed environment (manipulation and anticipation).

Yes! Hockey remains the ultimate Weak Link sport. That’s exactly why defensively really solid two way centers and defensemen are more valuable to win the SC than that regular season point getting winger/star. Build the team bottom up. When the time comes add a cherry on top.
Amazing. No superstars, just a solid team of really good players, smart management, excellent coaching, great analytics department.

First session back after a long season is almost like a detox. Posture, rhythm, angles and starting to recover that bounce - transfer of SSC to ice is challenging. 50% of the time is talking, showing, exchanging new ideas, technical/tactical objectives for year 2. #Frondell

#rakapuckar #twittpuck

Huge loss for VGK if he is out. A solid shut down 2C is basically more important to winning in the SC finals than any scoring winger. That’s why the 2C player type should be attached the right value when drafting. Draft year scoring just isn’t all that important to win the SC.
William Karlsson went to the dressing room following this hit He has yet to return at the start of the third period of Game 5

Thank you,@QuartexxHockey , for the opportunity to spend the day with your young Swedish prospects, sharing thoughts on skating mechanics and leading practical on-ice development sessions. Great kids! And a special thank you to @RandyWEdmonds1 for the invitation.

Go Finland! Always with an actual spine. I hope you never change. 💪💪

🤬🤬🤬🤬 In på isen o kör!!

If you are young, talented and possibly from Vancouver, I can’t imagine you wouldn’t want to come and play for this new crew. Congratulations to all for these standout hires! Go Canucks!

First: Congrats Finland and Helenuis! Second: at 3v3 OT there are players that may be solid at 5v5 that just shouldn’t enter the ice. Many coaches just don’t get it. Elite skating is the first qualifier. Elite 1v1 defense is the second. Atrocious coaching call by CH.

Sorry all Canadian friends, but something that is this important for Norway is also good for hockey as a sport! We need that over here 🤷‍♂️

Apropå Norge i VM…

This seems to have stirred some debate. I can see why. If I was to pick a 1C for a new roster and I had the second pick (Barkov already gone) I would go for Eichel. Winning is still so much more than scoring points. And defense still wins championships. 🤷‍♂️
1. Barkov 2. McDavid 3. Eichel 4. Draisaitl 5. Mackinnon (regular szn merchant)

If Craig is right and you add a value tag to the pick (which you always should) based on scarcity and importance, selection should be easier. Do you draft a player for racking up individual points in the regular season or to win the SC? Winning > scoring points

Attention Young Defencemen: I've been watching a ton of video on Jalen Chatfield (CAR5) over the past 3 seasons, and the habits that have led him to being trusted with big minutes each night. His ability to consistently cut ice, angle and defend by using his stick as a gate out of the corners and off the wall limit chances against regularly. But it's this habit, where he gains position before possession both for his partner and then on his own retrieval that I want to highlight. Yes, he is a physical player, but his choice to gain position, initiate contact, pull the defender in while cutting hands and not forcing a quick puck around the wall are all small habits. Instead of forcing the puck and giving it off for someone else to handle, CAR5 takes a hit to make a play so Carolina has time to be in a better position to get the puck safely north. So many times our young D panic and rush passes thinking its an opportunity to make a perfect play or simply that "someone else can make this play". But here is an example of confidence in our physical ability and patience to allow our supports to be in better position. Using our body, creating friction and taking a hit sometimes leads to team possession, coach trust and ultimately more minutes. I've attached 2 quick drills we use to aid in the focus on position before possession below. Credit to @Mitch_Giguere from Behind the Bench.
