Getting a roomful of GPs from around the world to singalong to Hey Jude which just happens to coincide with Sir Paul’s current Australian tour! #WONCA2023 #Woncasydney #beatles

Lovely video presentation by the @RACGP at #wonca2023 about what we’ve done this past year as a College. Is the video available for viewing on other platforms?

Aaaaaand Victoria joins the party: sro.vic.gov.au/legislation/r… Stealthily.

Govt: med students don't want to be GPs, what should we do? Also Govt: let's freeze the medicare rebate for a decade, get GPs to vax everyone but call them 'non frontline' for their own, blame them for everything that's wrong, & then hit them with payroll tax. 🦗🦗#auspol23

Great primary care (aka GP) is invisible until it isn’t there. Keeping folk from ED isn’t about ‘urgent care’ after a problem appears It’s the months and years of preventive care that prolong healthy life. Everything else is picking up the pieces

Hi @PMalinauskasMP when you said on @abcnews 7.30 that people are rocking up sicker to EDs, have you stopped to consider that GPs have been holding back the floodgates by looking after patients well, and keeping them out of hospital until they cant’t? @RACGP @AMAGenPractice

Read the thread. This one tweet in the middle is spot on. The patient-doctor encounter is relational, not transactional.

5. Long term care with 1 GP or a good group goes a long long way. Find a good clinic, take your time to get in. Once you're in they'll tend to bend over backwards where they can when there's a good two way relationship. Avoid purely transactional relationships.

It’s disingenuous that the Australian government expects private businesses to subsidise the cost of an essential service by over 50%. Many patients do not realise that when they are bulk billed, the government does not reimburse the entire private fee that their GP charges.
Doesn’t this mean you are just shifting the cost of seeing the GP onto the GP? Standard consult is worth about $80. Medicare gives a $37 rebate to the patient. Are you really claiming the credit for asking GPs to pay the $43 gap for every person on a Seniors card? @Mark_Butler_MP

This thread 🧵 on the terminology around suicide is ✅ and so relevant. I’ve been consciously avoiding saying or writing “committed suicide” for a while now, preferring “completed suicide” or “suicided” in its place. Still searching for the least emotive way of stating the fact.

The day before my son should have been 26, and on the day the news is reporting 3 suicides relating to the same hospital, I’d like to make a point about the language around suicide. It’s only going to be 3/4 tweets. If you agree, please retweet and let’s see how this goes

#fauxlowvaluecare #teamGP #justaGP Review semi-regular GP pt post ED attendance with discharge diagnosis of 'syncope due to dehydration'. Noted spectacular 'tan', borderline low K and postural hypotension. Referred back to same ED as Addisonian crisis for admission. BB item 36.

Not just Medicare, but the regulator (i.e. AHPRA) also! Such a shameful and illogically heavy-handed approach removes the professionalism from medicine and, ultimately, disadvantages patients.

Pathetic response by the regulators. Govt barely funds these services, waiting lists are ridiculous yet they find it appropriate to target someone providing such services for the community? Experts in ivory towers who don’t live in the real world!🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️@Mark_Butler_MP @RACGP

This appears to be a Medicare witch hunt to reduce one compassionate GP’s desire to help patients by bulk billing surgical procedures. Medicare’s recommendation? Bill privately or cease providing the service. What?? Andre deserves an AO nomination, not a sanction by Medicare.

It’s harassment level and must stop. Blind bureaucracy and questionable algorithms. Robo audits. Harms Drs and harms patient care. The compliance system and Medicare needs an audit of its own performance.
.@newsGPau #ProfessionalReview Branch calling:1 GP’s experience & fallout racgp.org.au/newsgp/professi… When operatives “stick to rules” it’s horrendous. When 1 goes “off piste”it’s mind-boggling & wrong many ways. @RACGP & @amavictoria #compliance group investigating @Mark_Butler_MP

A process that started with a cold-call from a mystery number quickly turned into a full @healthgovau review, which the impacted GP says has had a profound impact on his clinical practice – and his patients. bit.ly/3Du5M7r
