One year ago, at 20 I made the biggest bet of my life by investing $70k into Recheck with
@eternerd
Today, I'm making a different kind of bet:
I’m stepping away from Recheck as a co-founder to go all-in on building AI-native products as an indie hacker again.
There’s no drama here. No secret story.
As Recheck grew, something shifted quietly:
I found myself getting most excited when I was sketching new tools, shipping tiny prototypes, or playing with AI workflows that had nothing to do with "a Shopify app."
The honest truth is I love being an indie hacker.
Small loops. Weird experiments. Shipping fast.
Having the freedom to say, "This idea doesn't fit the current product, but I'm building it anyway."
Shopify has been an amazing ecosystem to learn in. But it’s also a box.
Most ideas have to pass one filter:
"Does this help Shopify merchants enough to be worth building?"
Over the last few months, I realized I'm excited about a different game:
- AI-native, high-leverage tools
- Not tied to a single platform
- Lots of shots on goal instead of one long, narrow road
- Going back to that indie hacker mode where I can spin up, test, kill, or double-down quickly
For a while, I tried to rationalize it away.
"Maybe you’re just tired."
"Ship this next feature and the spark will come back."
But your energy is hard to lie to.
You can push through misalignment for a quarter.
You can't fake it for a decade.
So after a lot of long calls and very honest conversations, we made the grown-up decision:
Kunal will keep leading Recheck deeper into the Shopify ecosystem.
I’ll step away and go build the strange AI-first stuff that keeps me up at night.
We get to protect the friendship, respect each other’s paths, and avoid the quiet "what if" resentment 5 years from now.
I'm insanely grateful for Kunal, and I think I won the co-founder lottery with him.
He took a wild bet with me when this was just an idea.
We shipped hard things, handled the unsexy work, and turned Recheck into a real, useful product for huge brands.
Whatever Recheck becomes next, I’ll be cheering from the sidelines.
Here’s what I’m betting on now:
- Smaller, faster build cycles
- AI-native products from day one
- Systems that give people outsized leverage
- The belief that your 20s are for aggressive exploration
Walking away from something that's working is way harder than walking away from something that’s failing.
But the original bet was never on one app or one platform. It was on myself.
This is just the next version of that same bet. 🫶🏻
Bit of an update from my end.
@ayysoni and I are parting ways on
@recheck_app
As Recheck has grown, our interests have diverged. Ayush is more excited about AI and not be restricted by the platform, while I still feel strongly about continuing to build on
