Which business model is serviced by only having 1 exclusive game per year? You can go all-in on a gated garden that lets you extract high rents or you try to sell to as many people as possible no matter what platform they're on. They are incompatible strategies though.
Hey look everybody - the “media” is confused again! Right on cue!🤣🤣🤣

The Adventures of Elliot Producer Naofumi Matsushita won't say whether Faie can be trusted. "I’m a fan of Bravely Default myself, and since I also served as producer on the HD Remaster version, I completely understand how you feel (laughs). I’d love for you to play the game and see everything first-hand, including whether Faie can be trusted." He also mentioned that he was surprised at the feedback that she talks too much, but there is an option in the game to turn it down. kotaku.com/the-adventures-of…

Literally did not happen
Xbox is floating the idea of in-game ads, noting that may have potential to "keep our products affordable". Goal is to ensure they can 'continue to fund outstanding work' from dev teams More ➡️ windowscentral.com/gaming/xb…
Community note
The Xbox executive clarified he did not mention in-game ads or company plans for them, instead suggesting optional ad-supported subscription tiers like Netflix ad tiers. x.com/ballmatthew/st…

The mixed messaging around Helix is arguably more confusing than the backtracking on exclusives. Sharma previously backed the existing vision of a premium PC experience. Now it's back to the drawing board on how to deliver on price.
Xbox strategy chief Matthew Ball admits that the ongoing RAM crisis will impact next-gen and Project Helix, but says Microsoft is adapting to the challenge. 🤔 "We are working very hard to rethink everything that we can about Helix," he said. Details 👇 windowscentral.com/gaming/xb…

To be clear that is not a quote from Ball, it's a quote from the newsletter paraphrasing his talk.
Well, it turns out my feeling was right. It was confirmed not even a day later. Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball has now said they plan to “invest more in big IP and cut back on niche productions.” That’s about as clear a signal as you can get. Commercial viability is taking priority. So goodbye to the era of unlimited creative freedom at Xbox. The message now seems simple: make games that can move the needle, attract millions of players, and justify the investment.

Underrated aspect of the current Xbox woes, which I've not seen discussed as much, is the fallout from last year's Call of Duty. The associated price hikes spiked Game Pass churn and did not even chart on last month's best-sellers in the U.S. (Black Ops 6 was still 7th in 2025)
