My new piece in @Slate, arguing that we should cancel the 2025-2026 intercollegiate athletics season. "There’s a nuclear option to fight Trump’s war against colleges. You aren’t going to like it." slate.com/life/2025/04/ncaa-… via @slate

In case you needed another reason to be angry today, here's my new (grim) piece in @Slate: How Trump’s proposed NIH cuts expose one of the worst-kept secrets in academia. slate.com/life/2025/02/nih-f… via @slate

136 minute wait at the University of Nevada, Reno polling site. I'm counting and about 6-7 people, 95% of them students, are joining the line every minute. The kids are alright.

That rate is probably an undercount on my part. At least 100 people arrived in the last ten minutes. Polls open for another 5.5 hours.

The Federal Indian Boarding School Era is one of the darkest chapters of American history. The trauma experienced in those institutions haunts our conscience to this very day. Today, I'm in Arizona to issue a long overdue presidential apology for this era – and speak to how my Administration has worked to invest in Indian Country and our relationships with Tribal Nations, advance Tribal sovereignty and self-determination, respect Native cultures, and protect Indigenous sacred sites. On my watch, we'll remain committed to ushering in a new era between our government and nation-to-nation relationships – one that is grounded in dignity and respect. We must remember our full history, even when it's painful. That's what great nations do. And we are a great nation.

It may seem like a small semantics thing, but community colleges ARE colleges, not a stepping stone to college. Lots of good research in this article, but I really encourage folks to be careful about language that makes it seem like community college isn't "real" college.

"Community college may not be the stepping stone to college many people think it is. Just 16% of students who start at a community college earn a bachelor’s degree within 6 years," per @jdickler @TatiVelasco @CommunityCCRC @JoshWyner @aspenhighered cnbc.com/2024/02/13/communit…

"The longer we can keep them thinking that the world runs on New Haven time, the better. Their loud ignorance allows the actual engines of American higher education to keep humming along in the background."

Excellent reporting by my friend @judejoffeblock on shameless conspiracy-mongering by Heritage Foundation goons, who then promptly turned around and attacked her personally. Their tactics are truly sickening.
Last month, I started a new job @NPR and soon noticed an X thread gaining traction that purported to show a flyer from a Matamoros-based NGO urging migrants to vote for Biden. We dug in to find out the story behind the flyer and this is what we found. npr.org/2024/05/10/124859950…

Any time I'm frustrated that my book isn't ranked higher on Amazon's "Education Reform and Policy" list, I can assuage that feeling by consulting the top of the chart.
