He was a pioneer. A straight shooter. A trusted, passionate leader. In our Summer 2026 mag, we remember Whit Lesure. “He was never going to sugarcoat anything. ... At the same time, Whit would give you the shirt on his back.” @steve_hewitt's tribute: basketballjournal.com/2026/0…

Castle led the Spurs in half-court matchups defending KAT in G3 (16). KAT only attempted 1 shot. Some of that was doubling w/ a roaming C. Some of that was late-switching against the PnP. Some of that was shot-selection from other Knicks. Something for both teams to think about

Another theme developing in this opening quarter -- hasn't always directly led to anything, but it feels like the Spurs have ramped up their efforts to put Jalen Brunson in action. They *do* get something here. Nice split from Dylan Harper before getting a layup to go.

This has been an important topic nationally but the New England prep angle has especially been a huge talking point! @steve_hewitt did a great job breaking it down
The NCAA's modified five-year eligibility rule proposal that was released on Friday was a big victory for prep schools and prospective postgraduates. Here's why, with more lingering questions and thoughts. From @steve_hewitt: basketballjournal.com/2026/0…

During the first two games of the Finals, Victor Wembanyama has rolled 47 times as the screener in pick actions. At least one of New York's off-ball defenders has tagged Wemby on 27 of those rolls, allowing him just two touches on those plays and only one point.
If you want to know why the Knicks have a 2-0 lead, watch what's going on away from the ball. Wemby wasn't shut down in the first half because the moment was too big. Rather, it was a disciplined gameplan by the Knicks to aggressively tag and disrupt his rolls. Turn 🔊 on:

I want to pull out this steal as one of my favs from Rhyne Howard in recent games. Textbook stunt and recover. Howard plants herself far enough in the paint to really take away the threat of a layup — and then she knows the kick-out pass will come so she's got her arm up early
Rhyne Howard not only comfortably leads the WNBA in steals, but her 25 "bad pass" steals (per PBP Stats) are 10 more than the next player — and she's only played 9 games. Her positioning/engagement level before the pass, plus quick anticipation and length, make some look easy

Lynx are playing pristine basketball wow

The stat ABC just showed was crazy - Natasha Howard setting 36.4 on-ball screens per game this season after setting 11 per game last year (if I read that correctly). That's such a massive change
Replying to @ethman43
Lynx get to a lot of empty side PnR sets with Howard. Here are some examples - even the BLOB at the end creates a very similar action. One thing to note, particularly in the first clip, is how good Howard is at recognizing opposing coverages and changing how she screens off that

Olivia Miles' efficiency scoring at the rim is unreal. Per PBP stats, among players with 25 attempts at the rim: - 52.2% of her shots are there (9th highest frequency) - 65% FG percentage at rim - 87.2% of her makes are unassisted (2nd highest???) So polished as a pro already

Ok your niche crazy WNBA stat for today: per PBP Stats, Emily Engstler leads the league with 8 blocked 3s and Nia Coffey has 7. The single-season record for blocked 3s (dating to 2009) is nine in a season. These two are on pace to SHATTER that Let's watch some contests!
