Situations like this are what
@ethos_network was built to recognise
Initially,
@opensea were the most egregious offenders in this unfair overreach because they banned every wallet associated with my Opensea profile, even though most of them have never used HTX and have no onchain link whatsoever to the wallets that have. They wouldn't even let me create new profiles on those wallets
This meant that all of my NFTs were now illiquid because Opensea is the only marketplace for most of them. Just let that sink in:
I had wallets that have never touched HTX, or any wallet that has touched HTX, that were now banned from Opensea and I could never sell the NFTs on those wallets
Furthermore,
@HyperliquidX has not banned these wallets and none of the compliance firms have flagged them -- only Opensea know that these wallets belong to the same owner because they are linked offchain to the same Opensea profile. Opensea is under no obligation to ban these wallets, even under the strictest application of the sanctions, because there is no onchain link to HTX for these wallets
However, thanks to
@BCheque1,
@Legendaryy and the amazing
@modernmarket_ community, the situation was brought to
@SteveKBark's attention and within hours, Opensea unbanned ALL of the wallets in my profile -- even the ones that had interacted with HTX post May 26th!
This is an extremely brave and principled stance that I believe will establish a seminal precedent against collective punishment in DeFi.
Thank you so much to Steve and Opensea for standing up for users and standing up for the principles of our industry.
Furthermore,
@blockaid_ and
@SethSteiman have shown how to be compassionate in compliance
Blockaid is the only compliance firm that actually provides an appeals process for reporting false positives. TRM have a general contact email (contact@trmlabs.com) on their website meant for BD uptake, while Elliptic and Chainalysis don't even provide an email, they just have AI chatbots for BD uptake
@MixemaCrypto had a similar issue in March and Blockaid are still the only firm to have responded to him
I connected with Seth from LobsterDAO and he was extremely compassionate and helpful to a random cold DMing him on TG. He kindly ran my wallets through their checks and confirmed that they were benign, which provided some hope in an otherwise dire and very difficult situation for me
Even if little can be done to help, I truly appreciate at least being treated like a human being with feelings whose life has been derailed by something I had no knowledge or involvement in and I hope that this can be example for
@chainalysis,
@trmlabs,
@elliptic and all the other compliance firms
I have put all my reviews of these genuine heroes of our industry below and I would like to propose a feature to
@serpinxbt:
The reverse slash
Simple reviews or vouches do not adequately reflect the courage, bravery and ethos displayed in situations like this one, just like how simple reviews do not adequately reflect the unethical behaviour of scams, hacks and rugs, which is my Ethos has slashing
BCheque, Legendary, The Modern Market, Opensea, Steve Bark, Blockaid and Seth Steiman all deserve 3 figure boosts to their Ethos reputation, as required.
