Totally agree! Showing the world that field scientists are people first and foremost is what we are all about!
I think stories are important since scientists are really just people who decided to pursue careers in science. This means anyone who wants to do it can, and so today I'm going to talk about my own story a bit. Questions welcome as always!

#fieldwork in the Afar of Ethiopia is hard, esp. at Mille-Logya, where outcrops are littered with sharp basalt cobbles that shred tires and boots. But, after years of hard work, today we report new evidence of the environ. context of the origins of Homo! nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

Twitter! If you've participated in fieldwork, please could you send me some pictures from your fieldwork that you wouldn't mind me using in a presentation? I am looking to have photos from a range of difficult disciplines to showcase the diversity of fieldwork! Thank you!

Here is the dining tent where we eat all our meals in the Afar. It’s a very remote place, so we mostly eat simple things like spaghetti and rice. A special treat is when we get hand cut French fries and local goat! #MilleLogya @PAStamos @Zeray_Alemseged @facesfieldwork

It is hot in the Afar. Really hot. Here we are hunkering down under a rare shade tree taking a quick break from fossil hunting. @facesfieldwork @Zeray_Alemseged @PAStamos @spmcpherron #millelogya

Hominin fossils are very rare, so most of what we find are the bones of animals that lived alongside early hominins. Here we are excacating the tooth of ~2.5 million year old elephant. @facesfieldwork @Zeray_Alemseged @PAStamos @spmcpherron
