Democrat Xavier Becerra and Republican Steve Hilton have advanced to the general election for California governor. But this comes after months of fear from both parties that they could be “locked out” of the general. That concern would be eliminated w/ ranked choice voting.

If too many candidates of the same party run in California's top-two primary, they may split the vote and cause two members of the other party to advance. With #RankedChoiceVoting, parties aren't penalized when more candidates run. Learn more ⬇️ fairvote.org/lockout-fears-i…

When former Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan ended his independent campaign for Michigan governor, he cited a desire not to be a "spoiler." That's a common concern in choose-one elections. With ranked choice voting, independents can run without that risk – giving voters more choices.

Yesterday, Maine voters went to the polls for ranked choice primaries for Gov & Congress. Candidates embraced ranked choice voting like never before, & overall voter turnout rose at least 39% vs. 2018. With no candidate winning a majority of votes in many primaries, RCV is key.

In choose-one elections, candidates can win with just a small % of the vote. And voters have to worry whether their vote will be “wasted” on a candidate who can’t win. But Mainers don’t have that problem. That’s the power of ranked choice voting.
In yesterday’s Dem primaries for Maine gov & CD-2, no candidate has more than 32% of first-choice support. But with ranked choice voting, voters will still get a majority winner. Without an extra runoff. This is how ranked choice voting delivers in Maine.

Nationwide, most cities that use ranked choice voting release results on election night or the next day. When San Francisco held RCV elections last week, they released round-by-round results on election night.
Results for D.C.’s first ranked-choice election could take days, potentially opening the city up to renewed Republican criticism. notus.org/metro/ranked-choic…
