Montreal Got Robbed
The City of Montreal got flat out robbed of a World Series Championship.
In 1994, the Montreal Expos had the best record in all of baseball. Not close — the best. They had Larry Walker, MoisĂ©s Alou, a young Pedro MartĂnez, and everything was lining up for a real run. This wasn’t a fun little story. This was a team that could actually win the whole thing. And then this happened…
In 1994, the Expos had the best record in all of baseball. Not “pretty good” — the best. sitting with a 74 and 40 winning record, as I mentioned earlier, quite the roster! Larry Walker, Moises Alou, Marquis Grissom, Ken Hill (who you could argue was the best pitcher that entire year), closer John Wetteland, starter Jeff Fassero, Underrated catcher Darrin Fletcher and 2nd baseman Mike Lansing, and well as a good support group in Cliff Floyd, Sean Barry, Wil Cordero, Butch Henry, Gil Heredia and of course don’t forget a young star in the making in Pedro Martinez.
Anything short of a trip to the World Series would be a disappointment. And then…. the season just… ended. Then there was a players’ strike in August, just a few weeks before the start of the playoffs, Major League Baseball cancels the rest of the season.
That’s it. The season ended. No playoffs. No World Series. Just… over.
