Nine years on from the Grenfell Tower fire, we remember the 72 people who lost their lives and stand with the bereaved families, survivors and the North Kensington community. Grenfell was a preventable tragedy. The Inquiry exposed systemic failures across government, regulators and industry. Yet, nine years later, no one has been held accountable. As Grenfell Tower is dismantled and communities continue to fight for justice, the lessons of Grenfell must never be forgotten. Safe homes are a right, not a privilege.

Tomorrow marks nine years since the Grenfell Tower fire. There is still no justice for the 72 people who lost their lives. We will remember the 72, stand with the bereaved, survivors and the Grenfell community, and renew our call for accountability. Tomorrow members of @fbunational will join the Silent Walk in solidarity. Join us if you can. Grenfell. Never forgotten. Justice delayed is justice denied. 💚 #Grenfell #GrenfellForeverInOurHearts

💭 After months of negotiation and very careful consideration, the FBU Executive Committee overwhelmingly recommends acceptance of this year's pay deal. We recognise that longer term pay reform is a priority for our members, this will be the focus of our work over the coming weeks and months.

🚨🚨FBU responds to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire station closure proposals update 📣 The Fire Brigades Union welcomes signs that the FBU campaign to save Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Stations has forced decision-makers to think again about plans that would have reduced local fire cover. This progress has not come about by accident. It is the result of the Fire Brigades Union alongside local residents and community campaigners standing together and refusing to accept cuts to the fire and rescue service. While the proposal for a 12-month trial merger between Hamworthy and Poole fire stations is a recognition of the strength of local opposition, serious concerns remain. Questions around response times, firefighter safety, operational capacity and the long-term future of the station have yet to be properly answered. The FBU has consistently argued that fire and rescue services should be funded and organised around the needs of communities, not driven by cuts, cost-saving exercises or short-term budgets. Steve Wright, General Secretary of the Fire Brigades Union, said: "The campaign to defend Dorset and Wiltshire fire stations has shown the power of collective action. FBU members have organised and fought to challenge proposals that would have weakened fire cover in communities and they deserve enormous credit for bringing decision-makers back to the table." "While we welcome any move away from outright closure, there are still significant questions about these proposals. Firefighters and the public need clear assurances that emergency response standards, firefighter safety and operational effectiveness will not be compromised." "For too long, fire and rescue services have been expected to do more with less. Across the country, firefighters have seen the consequences of years of underinvestment and cuts. The answer is not to stretch already hard-working crews even further, but to properly fund our fire and rescue services so they can deliver the protection that every community deserves." "The FBU will continue to campaign for investment, for safe staffing, and for the high-quality fire and rescue service that workers and communities have every right to expect. Our fight for safer communities does not end here." The union will continue scrutinising the proposals and working with local politicians throughout the process to ensure that the interests of firefighters and the safety of the public remain the priority.

Today the General Secretary met with the Chancellor and raised the urgent need for investment in the Fire & Rescue Service, future funding requirements to support the ongoing pay reform work, and the need to reverse the years of austerity by a Conservative Government that cut the FRS to the bone and that weakened public services. The GS also highlighted the importance of securing the funding for firefighter health monitoring, recently announced by the Health Secretary and secured after years of campaigning by the FBU. Firefighters deserve the protection and support they have earned and we are pleased to be working with the government to achieve this.
Positive meeting today between Labour's affiliated unions and Chancellor @RachelReevesMP. We were pleased to hear Rachel recommit to deliver the manifesto commitments on Make Work Pay in full, and to work closely with unions to take on Reform.

Serious fires require more than one fire engine to respond safely and effectively. A house fire with a person trapped inside requires three. Cutting frontline fire cover will result in residents waiting longer for vital back-up to arrive, putting their lives at risk.
