đš EMERGENCY APPEAL: Stand with Congolese women fighting Ebola.
Right now, a major crisis is unfolding in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared the current Ebola outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
The numbers are rising rapidly: 159 precious lives have already been lost, with 51 confirmed and 625 suspected cases across highly volatile regions like Ituri and North Kivu.
Why this time is dangerously different:
This outbreak is caused by the rare Bundibugyo virus strainâmeaning there is currently no approved vaccine or specific medical treatment. When medical tools are unavailable, containment relies entirely on human behavior, trusted information, and community care. And in the DRC, women and girls are on the absolute front lines. As traditional primary caregivers and leaders of community life, they face the highest risk of exposure and carry the heaviest burden of this crisis.
The Fonds pour les Femmes Congolaises (FFC) is launching an immediate emergency response. We are bypassing slow bureaucracies to send direct resources straight to 15 pre-vetted, trusted local women-led organizations on the ground. They are already working to:
đą Run peer-to-peer prevention awareness to stop dangerous rumors.
UN News - the United Nations
đ§Œ Distribute vital hygiene kits (handwashing stations, thermometers, protective materials) to women-run markets and informal clinics.
đïž Coordinate safe, dignified burials and support families experiencing deep grief.
We cannot wait for massive international machinery to move. We need to protect these women today.
Every single donation from an individual no matter the size will directly purchase a handwashing station, print life-saving health guides in local languages, or equip a grassroots women's center.
Please stand with the women of the DRC in this critical hour. Your solidarity saves lives.
