CB2 was proof of fun. CB3? Proof of community.
...and how did we do? An honest review —
In CB2, our retention and playtime (in other words, stickiness) showed how we far outperformed gaming industry benchmarks and the strength of our core game loop.
This season, we put that stickiness to the test: running our core game modes (Party Heist, a PvPvE extraction shooter with hero progression & Carnival Clash, 20 casual party games with heavier RNG mix) inside a risk-to-earn event model.
And once again, the community rallied — building a $214,000 prize pool funded entirely by players (okay… with a little $40K boost from us 😉). ZERO house cut. Pure risk-to-earn. Which meant — naturally — there were winners and there were losers.
What the stats showed us:
Stickier than ever: CB3 Day 7 retention = CB2 Day 2. 🔥
Scale & Volume:
Total Match Entries: 67% increase
Loot Boxes Opened: nearly 3x
NPCs Killed: 2.2x
Healthier player monetization: % paying users dipped, while ARPPU rose. Thanks to our Mask & Marauder role-based system distributing resources more efficiently between investors/spenders and skilled players & grinders.
Our most delightful surprise?
Zero to hero grassroots triumphs. the #1 Player and #2 Guild on the CB3 leaderboards were CB2 community leaders we watched grow from humble beginnings to true north stars, outcompeting (and often offering pro tips to) long-established whales 🐳& guilds ⚔️.
And their triumph revealed something bigger:
In Party Icons, strategy matters, but teamwork & trust are golden currencies. These leaders credit their CB3 success not just to skill, but to teamwork that crossed continents, languages, cultures, and servers. Our M&M role system and contracts made it possible — but it was the friendships forged in Party Icons that turned cooperation into victory.
But it isn’t all perfect, we had a lot to learn:
1 - Stock/share mechanic too front-loaded: early buyers dominated, latecomers had no way to catch up. Lesson: dynamic adjustments to keep mid/late entries meaningful (purchase caps, late-entry perks, steeper slopes).
2 - Our punishment mechanics. We designed them with good intentions — high risk, high reward, encouraging players to think twice before making moves. But in practice, the penalties were too heavy.
For highly active players, this meant enthusiasm cratered in the later stages of CB3. The rules hit different types of players very unevenly:
Independent paying players (who bought tickets themselves) felt the harshest squeeze, both financially and psychologically.
Guild-backed F2P marauders playing on gifted X-Pass contracts & tickets took almost no financial risk — which meant they could afford to go all-in and gamble harder. The same system ended up widening the gap, punishing some more than others.
Our reflection: rules that are equal on paper don’t always land equally in practice. Next time, we need smarter balancing that accounts for player type and cost structure, so risk feels fair across the board.
3 - Some players believed playing well should equal “profit,” but strategy investment mattered more and risk ≠ guaranteed profit. Even skilled players could lose out on their ROI if they didn’t invest wisely. That’s the harsh truth of the system, and we could’ve done a better job educating our community of the real risks and mechanism implications (and strategies).
Still, fairness needs work. We’ll keep refining so every type of player — mask, marauder, solo — has real opportunity.
Internally, we’re also exploring deeper optimizations in gameplay and event mechanics as we head towards BETA1 this fall. 🍂🎮🏆
The bigger picture? If CB2 proved our gameplay was fun and sticky, CB3 showed how far a strong community can go (and grow) when we give you the tools and the support.
And our community of legends — united by trust, rivalry, and sheer creativity — proved that together, they can shape their own game and its future.
