We got a species I haven’t collected before on the @Scripps_Ocean RVSproul! Lepidopus fitchi, Pacific Scabbardfish. A benthopelagic species found from 150-500 m.
Caught in a 340 m bottom trawl off SD conducted for the undergrad Methods in Biological Oceanography class!

New paper alert! We examined the risk of #endangered smalltooth #sawfish being captured as bycatch in US commercial fisheries. Not surprisingly, the shrimp trawl fishery is the greatest risk for this species off SW FL threatening recovery. DM for a copy! doi.org/10.1002/aqc.3777
