5/6: The impact of this flavor ban is expected to be significant. By banning these products, California hopes to decrease the rates of tobacco use among youth and adults alike.
4/6: In 2022, the state affirmed the ban on flavored tobacco products, known as Prop 31. This ban aims to reduce the rates of tobacco purchases and use, especially among youth.
3/6: Fast forward to 2016, the revenue from Prop 56 was utilized towards physician training, Medi-Cal, tobacco-use prevention and reduction programs, and research into cancer and heart diseases.
2/6: Prop 10 created a system of care, unique to CA, which formed First 5s 58 county commissions that deliver solutions to early childhood development statewide. Connecting families to resources in communities make First 5s invaluable to the children and families they serve.
1/6: The revenues from Prop10 fund early childhood education, health care, and tobacco-use prevention programs. This initiative led to a decrease in smoking rates by 12% among California adults.
