Anthropic, OpenAI, and Nvidia are national treasures. How about the government not kneecap hard-won American technology leadership with strategically myopic export controls and instead let our best engineers cook? No more dumb policy moves, please.

Did anyone in U.S. government do any ramifications analysis and realize this move, where U.S. can shut down models on a whim, will incentivize all foreign countries/companies away from building on top of American models pushing them to use China? Gutting U.S. AI industry. Are we really this dumb? Reverse ASAP

Did anyone in U.S. government do any ramifications analysis and realize this move, where U.S. can shut down models on a whim, will incentivize all foreign countries/companies away from building on top of American models pushing them to use China? Gutting U.S. AI industry. Are we really this dumb? Reverse ASAP

The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.
The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.
Access to all other Claude models is not affected.
We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible.

Anthropic’s constant fear-based marketing strategy to generate attention, which transparently aims for regulatory capture ahead of its IPO, is getting tiresome. It will backfire for the entire U.S. AI industry.

So anytime there’s a possible jailbreak, the U.S. government is going to ban access to a huge chunk of the smartest AI researchers in the world who are working here for us on green cards? Is our country this dumb? It’s like unilateral disarmament in the global AI race.

Dario knows what he's doing. Fear-based marketing sadly works. The other sad part is that people including those in the media, don't call him out on the baloney because they're incentivized not to.
And it's going to eventually backfire politically with the general public. Dumb moves all around.
