I'm very sorry to see this. The Phoenix gave me my first job in grown-up journalism and I spent three very happy years there. John Mulcahy, Paddy Prendiville and Paul Farrell were great teachers and the magazine was a unique voice in Irish journalism

The NUJ has celebrated the end of an unfair two-tier pay system at RTÉ's Irish language radio station.
Séamus Dooley, NUJ Irish secretary, said: “Raidió na Gaeltachta is a jewel in the crown of RTÉ, and it is appropriate that in the centenary of Irish radio we can finally ensure a fairer structure for RnaG journalists.”

The appearance of banned US Noraid leader Martin Galvin on the platform resulted in the RUC surging forward to break down the gate leading into Connolly House.
