Jeffco Commissioners Andy Kerr, Lesley Dahlkemper, and Rachel Zenzinger celebrated a major milestone for Rocky Mountain Metro Airport as it announced its Unleaded Fuel Transition Plan. The transition represents a significant step forward in reducing lead emissions while maintaining aviation safety and operational reliability. “This is a strong example of how policy, innovation, and partnership can deliver real results,” said Rachel Zenzinger, Jefferson County Commissioner and sponsor of Colorado House Bill 24-1235, which focuses on reducing aviation impacts on communities. “Reducing lead exposure matters for public health, and RMMA is demonstrating what proactive leadership looks like.”

This meaningful step forward reflects steady, thoughtful work and strong partnerships at the federal, state, and local levels. This transition reduces lead emissions while maintaining aviation safety, workforce development, and the economic vitality our airport supports.

We promised to keep our community informed—and we’re keeping that promise. The FAA has announced a temporary change to air traffic control tower hours starting December 28. RMMA does not manage tower staffing, but we are committed to sharing FAA updates with our community.

On Saturday, Dec. 20 at approximately 2 p.m., North Metro Fire responded to an Alert II airplane incident at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Jefferson County with ARFF65, BC61, E61, E64, E65, E68 and M61. From Westminster Fire Department, SAM11, WFDBC1, WFDM4 and WFDTRK5 responded to our call for mutual aid, and RMMA ARFF56 was also on scene. Upon arrival, Engine 65 established incident command, and all units stood by as the aircraft landed safely. It's unclear at this time why the plane's emergency system was activated. No patients were treated on scene or transported to local hospitals. Thank you to @WestyFire and @flyRMMA for their assistance.
