Cottage weekend. Thankfully even after the boat sells we will have friends with cottages in Georgian Bay. It’s an incredible place.

It’s Airshow weekend in Barrie. Our house always seems to be under the route the jets take when rejoining the formation, and when they’re out letting the city know they’re here. I think it’s cool but the dog’s not a fan. One jet missing from the @CFSnowbirds formations though.

My 2 leg YVR-YUL-YYZ day with an arrival time of midnight has become a one leg J deadhead home now walking in the door at 10pm. Sometimes you lose the scheduling lottery, today though I won. Cottage weekend awaits before my Wednesday line check to Venice.

Home from MAD last night, got my “local night’s rest” as per the regs and our CA, and back to work. One leg to YVR tonight with a short layover. Tomorrow we go to YUL and then deadhead home. Just a quick 2 day pairing, only 27 hours away from home, then 6 days off.

✈️ U.S. airline fuel costs surge 78% U.S. airlines spent nearly $6.5 billion on jet fuel in April—up 78 percent from $3.6 billion a year earlier despite consuming slightly less fuel, according to Bureau of Transportation Statistics data released Monday. The International Air Transport Association now forecasts global airline net profits will fall to $23 billion in 2026, down from a prior estimate of $41 billion, as jet fuel prices averaging $152 a barrel push the industry’s total fuel bill to roughly $350 billion, costs which have prompted American Airlines, Lufthansa, Air Canada, and other major airlines to cancel routes and cut schedules.

Salvaged a great day despite the airport hotel. Great food, great drink, great sights. Didn’t get a great post-arrival nap so off to bed early. Sleep in day then an afternoon departure for home.

Away from the plazas and palaces and monuments. Google Maps is put away. Not sure where I am or where I’m going. Just walking. Stopping. Cold beer. Warm snack. My favourite part of travelling in Europe.

Off to Madrid this evening on a random route below the tracks. Long night tonight as there are just 2 of us, no augment. 7:26 block time will have us touching down in MAD around 2:30am home time. Had a decent 2 hour nap this afternoon to prep for the all nighter.

82 years ago today, CWHM’s C-47 Dakota FZ692 was on a mission dropping troops behind the Normandy beaches in France. It was one of over 600 aircraft that dropped 23,000 paratroopers including the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion supporting the D-Day landings. 1/3

I go to Madrid Sunday for a 27 hour layover. Our downtown hotel has been changed to an airport hotel as a result of Pope Leo’s visit. Last weekend in Bogota I got stuck at the airport instead of downtown due to the presidential election. 🤬
Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Spain will require the deployment of more than 15,000 National Police officers, nearly 600 vehicles, seven helicopters, and 16 drones. It is set to be the largest security and logistical operation in the history of the police force. 🚓👮🚨👮‍♀️🚔👮‍♂️🙏 (1/5)
