🗞️ You may have heard in the news today that new research suggests MRI scans could form the basis of an effective national screening programme: bbc.in/3P6XOqg Here's what Simon Griveson, our Assistant Director of Research, has to say about the development: 💭 “When a man’s prostate cancer is caught early, it’s very treatable. Sadly, more than 10,000 men each year are diagnosed too late, when their cancer has already spread. “MRI scans have revolutionised the way we diagnose prostate cancer, and it’s great to see research into how we might use these scans even more effectively. These results are extremely exciting, and we now want to see much larger, UK-wide studies to understand if using MRI as the first step in getting tested could form the basis of a national screening programme. “We desperately need screening to help us catch more cancers early and save thousands of men’s lives each year — that’s why Prostate Cancer UK is committed to funding the vital research needed to make a national screening programme a reality, so that every man who’s at risk gets tested as early as possible.”

Our condolences to the family of Sir Michael Parkinson. He was a wonderful advocate of our work who shared his own experience of prostate cancer, supported our events and campaigns, and urged other men to know their risk. A beloved man who had a legendary career, Sir Michael will be greatly missed. 💙
