Excited to share that the validation paper for our microcoding system (microFIMS) is out now in Developmental Psychology! Our coding manual and training materials (using open source software) can be found our lab website: auburnflowerlab.wixsite.com/…

Excited to share new work on developmental links between the microbiome-gut-brain axis and internalizing symptoms with @Dr_BCallaghan, @JessicaUy_PhD, Jen Labus, and the GUSTO study team 🥳 (1/n)

In sum, this study identifies prospective links between gut microbiome composition, brain functional connectivity networks, and internalizing (depression and anxiety) symptoms across early to middle childhood.
This is exciting because it suggests that the early life gut microbiome might shape functional brain development in middle childhood in ways that are relevant for emergence of anxiety and depression symptoms when children enter school age. Lots of directions for follow-up! 🥳
Yayy! I've so much fun working on this project! Congrats to our paper leader @ShibaEsfand 🥳. Stay tuned for more results coming soon from the Mind, Brain, and Body Study 😀
🧠My first-first author paper of grad school is officially hot off the press! 🧠
We detail a novel approach for assessing the effects of caregiving-related #adversity (e.g., maltreatment) on the #brain#gut#immune axis and #internalzing symptoms in youth

Just got my covid booster yesterday and I was *dreading* it because I usually have terrible side effects, but I ended up being totally fine this year. Pleasantly surprised!
Anyway, this is a 📢 PSA 📢 that covid still exists, and please get your booster!!
So excited to share my first first-author paper published in Journal of Affective Disorders! We developed and validated a novel online version of the probabilistic reward task in a community sample of adults with self-reported MDD. cdasr.mclean.harvard.edu/wp-…
@BABLab_UCLA student @ShibaEsfand rocking the #ISDP2024 poster session tonight with her proposed hypothesis driven study looking at striatal function, mental health, and gut microbiome in kids.
At #ISDP2024 ? Be sure to drop by my poster (#86) to hear me talk about the links between the gut microbiome, striatal functioning and internalizing symptoms in kids! @devpsybio@BABLab_UCLA
If you’re at #ISDP come stop by my poster this evening to see our results investigating latent profiles of early life adversity and internalizing symptoms in young adults! @ADRC_UCLA
If you’re at #ISDP come stop by my poster this evening to see our results investigating the relationship between features of the gut-microbiome and cortical thickness of insula subregions in children. #interoception

Come stop by my poster tonight at #ISDP2024! You’ll learn about how the gut microbiome’s potential to produce acetate, a SCFA, is related to children’s health & adversity exposure. Interestingly, acetate is involved in energy metabolism & neuroimmune function 🧠✨
