Me: Now you just have to draw what you did. Student draws two groups of base ten pieces then erases the tens in one group and draws them with the other group. He looks at me and says, “Now I have to do this with the ones.” And he did. Brilliant!

That moment when a 2nd grader says, “Look at this perfect triangle. Look at the angles.” And I have to agree.

I was talking to a student about math. Another student asks, “is that your mother?” First student replies “No, she’s too old!” I just started laughing.

I love how this student decomposed 27 to 20 5 2 to make it easier to subtract from 50 5. The difference between the two 5s is zero!
