Didn't occur often, but I recall saying once, "The Chief of Staff has authority to discharge this patient, but my duty is to the patient, not to the hospital." The patient was allowed to stay. I was a locum at that time (1980s!), or might have eventually felt repercussions!

The COVID diagnosis ends up on death certificates whereas pathogens like influenza, RSV, nonovirus, C diff, etc, are less likely to be specified.
Terrific thread. Perhaps most Covid deaths in 2022 are more like influenza deaths than they are like Covid deaths in 2020 - i.e., hard to identify in individual patients because they occur alongside other active illnesses, but easier to identify at the population level.

Many in LTC, ALC, waiting would go if they had a home, or affordable home. We need more supportive housing, subsidized retirement homes and independent living centers (ILC).
