Are there any fairies left in Norfolk? For those of you who like that sort of thing, I've written a new short story on this topic. It's called "Ferier's Hill". If you want to read it, there's a link in the thread below.

A question from today's marvellous Trooping the Colour — is it unusual to have non-guardsmen, in this case Royal Navy personnel, as route liners? None of us could remember having seen it before, but I may well be wrong about this. They were very smart.

The subject of the portrait behind you is unknown, little Spoon; still, you look as if you've left a small space next to you, as if to invite company; perhaps you know things about this house that I don't, little Spoon, because you can hear and see things that I can't or won't; I will leave you to your reveries, enigmatic but much-loved little Spoon

Like his friend Paul Nash who he met at the Slade, Claughton Pellew believed trees held a spiritual quality. This work from 1924 likely features his wife Emma (also an artist) walking near their home at Southrepps, North Norfolk.

There are few things more joyous than waiting on the platform of a small railway station in East Anglia, alone, on a sparklingly clear morning, listening to birdsong and the wind ruffling the poplars

Here's the handsome church of Wiggenhall St Germans, which stands something like 8 feet below the normal high tides of the Great Ouse — hence the embankment. Although the church probably has Norman origins, what's there now dates from the 13th-early 16th centuries.

Little Spoon, until today you never visited West Norfolk; indeed I do not think you were even aware that West Norfolk existed; do not worry, little Spoon, West Norfolk is actually rather delightful once one gets used to it; embrace your expanded horizons, courageous little Spoon!

The cats are at our west Norfolk place for the first time ever, and I think it's fair to say that they are shocked to learn that there is another place that exists in the world, about which they previously knew nothing

I'm sorry to hear that David Hockney has now departed for the great vernissage in the hereafter. What a life, though! From those deliciously spare, apparently effortless early drawings, through to the chic portraits and the unapologetically luscious landscapes of his later years, he had a rare gift of producing art that not only radiated his own avid enjoyment, but invited everyone else — not just the critics — to enjoy, too. No wonder he was so much loved. RIP.

Here's an enchanting rose: David Austin's "Emily Brontë", a gift from a very kind friend.

This won't mean much to anyone outside North Norfolk, but Pointens (the estate agents) seem to have been acquired by Sowerbys. @EDP24

Not the best photo, as it was taken through my dining room window — but I do think this roe doe and her fawn are very sweet

What a difference a day makes! I have no idea why the landowner decided to mow the field of poppies today — I'm sure there's a reason, but they were still looking rather lovely this morning.

Friends of Toby the (ex) tomcat might enjoy this photo from yesterday evening, when Toby climbed over a shed roof in order to join me in the walled garden as I was closing the hens up for the night. He's on fine form at the moment — energetic & increasingly good with other cats
