Disclaimers: 1. This is long and self centered (typically 😅). 2. I don't get paid by X I cannot imagine a life devoid of stories by: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Nigeria) Ngugi Wathiongo (Kenya) Khaled Hosseini (Afghanistan) Claire Hajaj (Palestine et al) And even though I've intentionally chosen to focus less on western literature, I can't imagine a life without stories by: Charles Dickens, Danielle Steele, George Orwell Guys, Please read as diversely as possible. It will open your mind. Growing up Zimbabwean libraries were packed with literature from all over the world. I read pacesetters from Nigeria, Followed dramas from Sweet valley High in the USA, Followed the Hardy boys, Nancy Drew, And read about British summers as told by Enid Blyton. I was born and raised in semi-rural Gwanda - Zimbabwe, But as a child, Just from reading and films- I had the worldview of someone who was extensively well traveled. South African films like "Asinamali" and "Sarafina" conscientised me about the evil that was apartheid just across the border, We would sing about Nelson Mandela, When SA got Independence, My friends and I were ecstatic at only 10 years old. I'm currently reading "The Arsonist's city by Hala Alyan, Through it I'm understanding more about life in Lebanon and Syria, Which gives me context about the current crisis in the middle East. Now, When I hear Israel has bombed Beirut yet again, I understand that at a deeper level than before I read novels written by survivors of that violence and their descendants. Just last week I reviewed "The poisonwood bible by Barbara Kingsolver, It's just a story about a couple and their 4 daughters, But it's set in Congo and talks about the assassination of Patrice Lumumba, And the hand of Belgium, France and the USA in the destabilization of Congo. From reading it I can clearly see the third hand in the current crisis in the DRC. And from reading it, I now understand why we have so many Congolese immigrants in Zimbabwe, And I empathise with them. Please read. In a world where traveling isn't always feasible, Reading books set in different countries Is the next best thing.
Replying to @kunenephindz
I'm not reading anything written by a Zimbabwean about a Zimbabwean.. we have writers in South Africa she is not bringing any scarce skill.. fxck her!

Been refreshing and checking every single day from the Night of Worship. Each medley was fire! Worship heals! It reaches depths and crevices the most loving human hands and words can't get to. In worship, you get God's embrace - much more than you give to Him.
There was such a heavy shift in the room during the Worship Project, and I know so many of you have been asking for the replays... 🕊️ Good news: The wait is over. We are premiering the playback today at 2:00 PM WAT on YouTube! Whether you’re experiencing it for the first time or the tenth, come expecting a move of God. YouTube Channel: Toluwani Odukoya

A policy that treats children as passive objects of protection rather than rights-bearing citizens with developing agency will ... fail to secure the buy-in of the young people whose behaviour it is trying to shape, writes, @funmiodude. financialnigeria.com/balanci…

I don't know who needs to hear this but I have to say it - DON'T HAVE SEX WITH AN INTOXICATED WOMAN. YOU RISK BEING ACCUSED OF RAPE! Because drunk people lack the capacity to give informed CONSENT to sexual activity. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

People forget that Jesus came at a time when Jerusalem was under Roman occupation. They installed a puppet King (Herod) and taxed the people heavily. But the Jewish people had historical records of God using Moses to save them in Egypt. They had read of how God used King David to save them from their enemies. If God did it before, he can do it again. If he save them from Egypt, surely he can save them from Rome. So they expected a Warrior King. A Messiah that would save them from the chains of Rome. You could forgive them for thinking that Jesus was that warrior King. Because when he spoke, he spoke with authority. He performed miracles and drew huge crowds who followed him. To cap it up, he spoke about "The Kingdom of God" - A Phrase that simple meant "Regime Change" to the people. So when He rode into Jerusalem (on Palm Sunday), people started shouting - “Hosanna…Blessed is the King!”. They weren’t just worshipping. They were endorsing a potential revolutionary leader. Their own version of a Nationalist Political Leader. BUT THEY WERE GREATLY DISAPPOINTED! There was a clash of expectations. While they expected a sword, Jesus brought a message of “love your enemies....blessed are the peacemakers". When they expected Rome to fall, he urged them instead to “Render unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar". They expected political liberation, instead, He spoke about inner transformation, salvation of the soul and a spiritual kingdom. They wanted a King to overthrow Rome but Jesus instead revealed a Kingdom not built on violence but on the core plan of reconciling sinners to God. If Jesus was to come in the 21st Century, many would be greatly disappointed because his person and message would not be different from when He came in the 1st Century. After all, isn't he the same yesterday, today and forever?

My name is Oluwatosin Olaseinde, in 2023 I applied for over 100 opportunities and we only got 6 of them. This totaled grant of $125,000 and multiple fellowships. From an arithmetic perspective, only 5% of the things we shot at came back to us. This is your sign to not give up. Keep applying, keep showing up, and keep pushing forward until you hit your goals. It’s a numbers game.

📌Update 🇳🇬 Yesterday, the Federal Executive Council approved a Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System for Nigeria and honestly… this is one of those quiet policies that will change everyday life. If you have ever tried to describe your Nigerian address, you will understand. “After the big mango tree…” “Turn where you see Mama Bisi’s shop…” “The blue gate beside the church…” Then the dispatch rider calls four times. This new system means every house, shop, street and building will have a unique digital address code tied to the national map. One code. One exact location. No confusion. That means: • Dispatch riders will finally find houses without calling 5 times • Online orders will arrive faster • Ambulances and fire service can locate emergencies quicker • Businesses can deliver anywhere in Nigeria • Government can plan roads, schools and hospitals better These are the kinds of invisible infrastructure that power modern economies. Sometimes progress is not noise. Sometimes it’s systems quietly fixing problems Nigerians deal with every day. Thank you President @officialABAT Honourable Minister @bosuntijani PMG @Tola_Odeyemi and the teams at @FMCIDENigeria and @NipostNgn Nigeria is building. And when the day comes that a rider gets to your house without calling you once, you will understand why this matters. #RenewedHope #KemKem

I recommend this for lawyers interested in working with banks and other financial institutions. Most of the banks listed in this volume failed due to lack of corporate governance, insider loans and stranglehold of some banks by a few etc. Assurance Bank had Father and Daughter as Chairman BOD and Managing Director respectively. Some of these early banks were plundered to death by it's management. One key take away is that a bank is as good as its financial records. 👌

Pastors cannot have tattoos. Pastors cannot wear waist and ankle chains. Pastors cannot……….. I have just one word for all the LAW makers on what a Pastor can or cannot do: “Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.” Romans 14:4 NKJV You are NOT the master of the Pastor. Read the whole of that chapter and understand that you, a man, cannot be the determinant of what will grieve a person to fall. REST.
