Just published! In this book, Jane Calvert (of @UoE_STIS and @uoessps) draws on over a decade of social scientific work on synthetic biology to ask: where does #STS belong? Available Open Access on @mitpress website

There's something interesting going on with @replaybio's (beautifully designed) website....all these authoring metaphors really push on the possibilities of biology vision.

The University of Western Australia has started a process to shut SymbioticA down and we have 8 working days to make a case as to why it should continue. We welcome letters of support. DM with your email address if interested. #savesymbiotica
Who else remembers this issue of Nature? To say it was an influence on my decision to do synthetic biology is a bit of an understatement. I literally quit my day job after reading this.
Our latest research has just been published today in the journal Nature. We engineered yeast to produce the cancer therapeutic vinblastine. You can find the work here: nature.com/articles/s41586-0…. It is the longest biosynthetic pathway ever refactored into yeast.
Meanwhile in Edinburgh..Jane and Rob are at #msbw2022. Come and chat to us at our big teal poster later! We want to hear about the place of organisms in your work.🦆🪴🐁🦠

I'm chatting about what it means to write genomes for @futureorganisms, including the metaphors used to justify biotech innovations. 🐉📖🤖
It's a public talk for @Gene_Writers later today, 6-8pm CDT. You can stream or rewatch here:

one of our interviewees talked to us about how they'd like to use #SyntheticGenomics to grow oak trees in 72 hours, and use that technology to grow sequoias and redwoods

I am nominating Margaret McFall-Ngai for the Van Leeuwenhoek Medal for microbiology. They are focusing on a female recipient & I think she is a great choice. Deadline is Sept 15. Feel free to share support on link.
