Today’s @jrf_uk report shows that serious govt action can lift children out of poverty. If the govt wants to be serious about alleviating the suffering of children in poverty, it must commit to ending the unfair two-child limit on benefit payments. brnw.ch/21wQjZs

We’re delighted to hear from @AndyBurnhamGM that care leavers in Manchester will soon get free bus travel up to the age of 25. Barnardo’s Transport for Freedom campaign is calling for free bus travel to be introduced for all care leavers nationwide: brnw.ch/21wP8jE

Yesterday, Greater Manchester approved free travel passes up until the age of 25 for young people who have experienced care. Through devolution, important progressive steps continue to be made.

We’re delighted to hear @MetroMayorSteve announcement that care leavers in Liverpool will be offered free bus travel. Barnardo’s Transport for Freedom campaign has been calling for bespoke schemes for care leavers struggling with the cost-of-living: shorturl.at/MbhSE 👏

Proud to announce that care leavers across the Liverpool City Region will now receive free travel passes, opening up a world of opportunities for young people who need it the most. This is about more than just getting from A to B—it's about fairness and breaking down barriers. For too long, care leavers have been disadvantaged, often struggling to access jobs, education, and the social networks that many of us take for granted. By giving them the freedom to move around our region, we’re investing in their futures and showing that nobody should be left behind. From half-price travel for apprentices to our £2 cap on bus fares, we’re committed to making sure transport works for those who need it most. Every young person in our region deserves the chance to thrive, and this is another step toward making that happen.

The severe suffering of 3 million children at the sharpest end of our poverty emergency is unseen and unreported. These are austerity’s children – millions of boys and girls living through what is for them the “hungry 20s” in food bank Britain. theguardian.com/politics/ng-…
