Proud to have worked with a group of teenagers in the UK to make this powerful campaign: bit.ly/3OJ4KIV We worked together for months to create a film influenced by their experiences of poverty. With help from award-winning director @holbrook99. #PotentialNotPoverty

And Cllr Gemma Munday spoke about the incredible work the Council has done to protect children and boost children's services - for the benefit of families and young people across the borough. As she says - very little else could be as powerful a reminder of our values in action.

Children are paying the highest price in today’s wars. MPs across political parties agreed that the UK Government must do more to protect children facing devastating harm in conflicts from Gaza to Sudan, including from the deadly impact of explosive weapons, which are killing children on a horrific scale. The UN Children and Armed Conflict agenda is one of the world’s most important tools for monitoring grave violations against children and holding perpetrators to account. With one in five children now growing up in war zones, the UK must step up. Children have distinct needs and rights, and are often hit first and hardest by conflict because their bodies and minds are still forming. It’s time for the UK Government to publish the UK’s first ever Children and Armed Conflict Strategy to protect children caught in conflict, end impunity, and stop future violations against children.

One third of ALL council housing building started in London this year has been by Lib Dem Sutton council. A great achievement from the Lib Dem team - but also a reflection that Labour have failed on housing - contributing to our terrible levels of homelessness.

Carshalton Central’s councillor Isabel Araujo highlighted her own experience - and reminded us that it takes courage, perseverance & determination to leave your home country - and that courage and kindness can build bridges stronger than any prejudice.

The UK should be leading on this, not falling behind. Recognise the independent state of Palestine now and take the lead on securing a two-state solution and a lasting peace.

It was a lot of fun producing this project! I ran a superhero film workshop for children at @RichMixLondon. Thanks to our new @savechildrenuk ambassador @NicholasHoult for dropping by to talk about his latest film Superman🦸
Our latest Save the Children UK Ambassador, @NicholasHoult, surprised an after-school club at @RichMixLondon following a sneak peek of his new film, #Superman. As Lex Luthor, Nicholas might be a supervillain on the big screen, but he's now a true superhero for children everywhere. #NicholasHoult

Proud to speak about @SuttonCouncil children’s services last night. Including our commitment to care leavers through ring fencing social housing, council tax exemption until age 25, and events like the Christmas dinner I attended last year - so nobody is alone on Christmas.
Cllr Gemma Munday has spoken tonight about the work that Sutton is doing for care leavers. Ours is one of the first councils in London to recognise care leavers as a protected characteristic. Everyone in Sutton deserves a bright future - and we're committed to delivering it.

Our latest project - children from Gaza documented their stories, hopes and dreams during a workshop at our safe space in Egypt.
For #WorldRefugeeWeek, working with @chooselove, our ambassador Misan Harriman held a special photography workshop in Cairo for a group of Palestinian children from Gaza to tell their stories. 📸 Explore the children's powerful photo series here 👇 theguardian.com/artanddesign…

I don’t think I will ever take part in a vote where the result is read out in such silence or the exit into Members' Lobby so fraught with emotion. This has been an incredibly challenging and personal experience. I wavered at times but in the end I backed the bill. This is why: suttonlibdems.org.uk/news/ar…

Earlier today the government announced a cut to the UK aid budget to fund an increase in defence spending. 12 years ago, we released this video to show how aid protects children in the toughest situations. Now, the message is more important than ever.

Shockingly, 1 in 4 children in our borough live in poverty. Scrapping the cruel two-child benefit cap is the simplest, most effective way to bring this number down and give kids a fairer start in life. I'll keep pushing for change.

It has been 20 years since the devastating Asian tsunami. At just seven years old, Martunis survived three weeks alone in the wreckage. Save the Children helped locate his father & reunite them after the disaster. His story is one of the most powerful I have collaborated on:
Almost 20 years ago one of the deadliest natural disasters in modern history struck Indonesia. 7-year-old Martunis was miraculously saved after 21 days on his own, and we were able to reunite him with his father and grandmother. This is his story 👇 bit.ly/4gB8nwO
