Well done to @emmaa_wtf for her excellent poster presentation at #microsoc25 in Liverpool last week. Emma's work is funded by @agriculture_ie and asks a question - can some pathogens survive in animal waste and is there a risk to spreading that waste on fields?@safewaste22

Emma has first looked at a parasite called Cryptosporidium parvum and found DNA evidence of its presence in farm slurry all year round. This parasite can cause disease including diarrhoea in cattle so isn't a great one to have.

Even the fact that this is a conversation and is being considered surely points to the reality that social media is an issue in younger children and needs further research and consideration.

Global challenges are more interconnected than ever and so must be our responses. 🔵 The climate crisis is profoundly threatening our health and our health systems. 🔵 New diseases continue to emerge, 60% of which come from animals, particularly in areas where ecosystems are disrupted. 🔵 #AntimicrobialResistance is projected to claim 39 million lives by 2050 unless we act now. How do we protect our #health in the face of these mammoth challenges? It’s self-evident – we must also protect the health of #animals and that of our #planet. This is the very essence of the #OneHealth approach that we are implementing together with @FAO, @UNEP_Europe, @WOAH_Europe as the Quadripartite. Together, we work to optimize the health of humans, animals, plants and the environment. Find out more who.int/europe/initiatives/o…
