We did extensive research on this at Pendulum Ink. Off the Top was created in the west coast. Sky Rap is what it is titled after interviewing east coast and west coast OG’s. Freestyling is a written rap, free of style created on the east coast. Krs & Kane confirmed with me.

Rappin off the top can be freestylin. A loose written verse that don’t got a particular subject/ain’t part of a structured song can be freestylin.
People who do act snotty about this all are really childish, & usually ain’t that good at rappin, pen or no pen.
