I step into a cafe where I work some mornings. Hadn’t read the news yet. The barista is Ukrainian. My friendly ‘morning!’ is met with a weak smile. I know what it means. ‘What happened?’ ‘Pechersk Lavra is burning.’ Imagine waking every morning to the dread of finding out who Russia has killed, what Russia has destroyed in the night. Every day, for over four years. I’ll say here what I said to her: this is Russia losing. Blind rage and destruction because they have no viable strategy, no path to victory. It doesn’t make this any better, it doesn’t bring lost loved ones or national treasures back. But it is true. Fascist Russia will destroy itself. And Ukraine will survive, will win, will rebuild. You are not alone.

Efforts to deal with the aftermath of the Russian strikes are ongoing in Kyiv, as well as in Kharkiv. Last night, the Russians launched more than 60 missiles at the capital alone. In total, 70 missiles and 611 drones were used against Ukraine. As of now, 28 people have been reported injured and four killed in the capital. My condolences to all their families and loved ones. A Russian strike on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra set the Dormition Cathedral on fire – a church whose history dates back to the 11th century. And this is one of Russia’s most serious crimes against Christian culture to date. The State Emergency Service has already extinguished the fire on the cathedral’s roof. In Kharkiv, the Russians carried out a repeat strike against our rescuers as they were putting out a fire at the site of an earlier strike on an industrial facility. So far, tragically, five people have been confirmed killed. My condolences to all their families and loved ones. Nine people have been injured. In Dnipro, Russia struck the grounds of a railway station, a college, and several enterprises. Other cities and communities were targeted as well. The Kyiv, Dnipro, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and Mykolaiv regions were also under attack. This is how Russia shows the world its intention to continue the war. It is very important that there be a response from the G7 countries, which are now gathering for their summit – and that this response be decisive and substantive: more pressure on the aggressor and more support for Ukraine’s air defense, especially anti-ballistic capabilities. Erneuter heftiger Angriff auf die ukrainische Hauptstadt Kyiv. Erste Berechnungen gehen von 500 Drohnen und 30 ballistischen Raketen aus darunter 8 Zyklon hyperschal. 40 Gebäude wurden getroffen darunter das 1051 gegründete Höhlenkloster. Dieser Angriff auf ein derart heiliges Gebäude des Orthodoxen Christentums ist in jedem Maße zu verurteilen. Über 40 Verletzte und aktuell 5 Tote in der letzten Nacht, darunter Rettungskräfte, schwangere Frau und Kinder. Je mehr Kontrolle Russland millitärisch verliert desto höher die Wahrscheinlichkeit für mehr eskalierende Angriffe wie diesem, ohne Sinn.

I thank all friends of Ukraine and everyone who helps us obtain important information and supports Ukrainian intelligence operations. Our intelligence agencies reported on the results of their work to assess the internal situation in Russia and obtain documents that end up on the Russian leader’s desk. We understand that Putin rarely receives information that is entirely truthful and unvarnished. But even what he sees in the documents that reach him still allows conclusions to be drawn. In particular, the so-called “projected indicators” of Russians’ dissatisfaction with Putin will continue to rise steadily, and he is already being conditioned to accept the idea that this growing dissatisfaction cannot be stopped and that this indicator “will not plateau” by September, when parliamentary elections are scheduled in Russia. As for the level of support for Russia’s ruling party, a steady downward trend is being recorded, which means significantly greater electoral fraud will be needed. They are also reporting a substantial rise in protest sentiment in Russian regions. We believe these reports also do not yet take into account the potential events of June, July, and August, which are bound to further affect the situation in Russia. The entirely justified pressure on Russia over this war will continue and intensify – and it won’t be just our pressure. So by September, Putin will be facing significantly worse indicators. Unfortunately, to all the public and non-public peace proposals we have made, the only response has been words about continuing his war. The internal situation in Russia should convince him of the opposite: that peace is needed. Ukraine is proposing to negotiate a dignified peace. Obviously, the trends will not change, and over time this may mean that an agreement will have to be reached with someone else from Russia – someone who will not shut themselves off from reality. Glory to Ukraine!

Ми розуміємо, що Путіну рідко приносять повністю правдиву інформацію без прикрас. Але навіть те, що він бачить у документах, які до нього потрапляють, все ж таки дозволяє зробити висновки. Зокрема, так звані прогнозні показники невдоволення росіян Путіним продовжать неухильно зростати, і його вже зараз почали привчати до думки, що зростання невдоволення не вдасться зупинити і цей показник «не вийде на плато» до вересня, коли в Росії заплановані парламентські вибори. Щодо показника підтримки російської правлячої партії фіксується стійка тенденція до падіння, що означає необхідність значно більших фальсифікацій. Доповідають також і про суттєве зростання протестних настроїв в російських регіонах. Вважаємо, що у цих звітах ще й не враховані потенційні події червня, липня та серпня, які не можуть не вплинути на ситуацію в Росії додатково. Цілком справедливий тиск на Росію за цю війну триватиме і буде збільшуватись, і не тільки наш тиск. Отже, на вересень Путін вийде з іще значно гіршими показниками. На жаль, на всі публічні та непублічні пропозиції миру, які були нами зроблені, прозвучали тільки слова про продовження його війни. Внутрішня російська ситуація має переконувати у протилежному: у тому, що мир потрібен. Україна пропонує домовлятись про достойний мир. Очевидно, тенденції не зміняться, і з часом це може означати, що угоду доведеться укладати вже з кимось іншим з Росії – з тим, хто не буде закриватись від реальності. Слава Україні!
