Alexa 100 Accessibility Update #2 - webaim.org/blog/alexa-100-up… This new blog post suggests that, despite the significant and pervasive accessibility issues across the web, things *might* be getting better.
Yet another fear-based accessibility “expert” consultancy with a wildly inaccessible web site (focus indicators, form labels, and captions are a low bar, no?) - atlasaccessibility.com/ This crap is so damaging to the legitimate efforts!
ALT YouTube video (without captions) screenshot of cartoon person with disabilities in flames (hell?) with "I WILL SUE YOU..." repeated 3 times.
I was grumbling to a friend about a bug in an open-source tool I use, and they grabbed my shoulder and said, very gently, "Fix it yourself! Are you a programmer or not?"
I am not too ashamed to admit that I forgot about my entire skillset for five minutes, is what I am saying.
I didn't read many "Design Trends for 2019" posts, but here's what I wish the trends were:

2. Accessibility
3. Not worrying about design trends until the things you're working on are usable and accessible
Capitalism began in England around the 16th century. They immediately went on to colonize half the planet in search of new markets, committed multiple genocides, traded slaves, and engaged in constant war.
In school we learn about how communism is evil because of a famine.
“ In a landmark victory for disability rights advocates, the de Blasio administration has agreed to survey and ensure that all of the city’s roughly 162,000 sidewalk curbs are accessible for New Yorkers with mobility and vision-impairment issues.“ #a11ygothamist.com/2019/03/21/sid…
Being the only disabled person in a meeting and hearing someone disparage accessibility is... really hard. After enough times, you can read between the lines. So many dog whistles about how "few people" need these accommodations. About "it's too much work." I'm just sad.
ALT Presently, the majority of graduates are mainly focused on the visual aspects of a website. They don’t have the faintest idea how someone who’s blind uses the internet. Or why it’s important to create designs with ample color contrast. And when it comes to making sure a website can be navigated with just a keyboard, they wouldn’t know where to start.
