GRAND REOPENING: We’re proud to celebrate the official unveiling of the fully renovated men’s library at the Elmwood Correctional Men’s Facility, a meaningful upgrade made possible through our partnership with
@go2MissionSC.
Here’s what’s new:
• A refreshed, modern space now offering more than 3,500 books, including self-help, legal resources, literature, recovery materials, and Spanish-language titles
• Comfortable new furniture, expanded hours, and engaging programming that now attracts up to 50 visitors a day
• Over 200 library cards already issued, with new mobile delivery services rolling out to reach dorms and higher-security areas
“It has been nothing short of amazing and made my time here a lot better,” said Steven, an incarcerated person who frequently uses the library.
Sheriff Jonsen emphasized that literacy, education, and personal development are essential to a restorative justice approach that supports safer communities when individuals return home. Mission College President Seher Awan and
@SupEllenberg echoed that belief, noting that education should never be defined by circumstance.
We’re grateful to everyone who made this renewed space possible!
