In not a single one of these little campaigns was I victorious. In other words, in each case, I personally failed, but I have lived to see the thesis upon which I was operating vindicated. And what I very often say is that I’ve lived to see my lost causes found. - Pauli Murray

An inspiration & a titan in public service. So honoured to have serve alongside @TDSBDirector. I'm still in awe of watching her get extremely difficult things done - all while leading with compassion and care at her core. Congratulations on your (well deserved) retirement!
Director of Education Colleen Russell-Rawlins will be retiring from the Toronto District School Board. During a Special Board meeting today, Trustees were notified of her retirement, which will take effect in November 2024. Read the news release: bit.ly/3V21fA7

A life update: Today was my last day as Executive Lead for Public Engagement & Communications at @PeelSchools. Since joining in 2020, it has been an honour serving alongside so many incredible leaders in our shared mission to help students flourish.
Job update - Starting in December I will be joining the Peel District School Board as the Executive Lead - Public Engagement & Communications! I’m looking forward to joining Colleen Russell-Rawlins & the PDSB team in the work ahead. Appreciate the warm welcome @NokhaDakroub!

I’m a better leader today for having taken on the challenges we faced together, from COVID impacts on our school system to the implementation of the Ministry Directives. I’m grateful as well for all of the true friendships formed along the journey.

I’m just beginning to dream up my next chapter, but I know it will involve writing, collaborative leadership, and a continued positive impact on the communities around me. In the meantime, a little more fun in the sun and enchantment with my toddler. ☀️

It was such a joy to share space with friends from across Canada in celebration of Dr. Howard McCurdy’s autobiography completed with George Elliott Clarke hosted at @ADFRNTBooklist. This is a necessary addition for any collection of Canadian political memoirs. Beautifully done.

A good friend and mentor of mine @JenJonesRotary once told me she hopes each year is better than the last. As I reflected on this recently, it occurred to me that I’m having difficulty finding the good in 2023. It has been an objectively deeply sad year.

Yesterday would have been my father’s birthday, and instead, this is the first holiday we are preparing to celebrate without him. Listening to the Stevie Wonder song “Someday at Christmas” I can’t help but break into tears for all of the loss this year brought for so many.

Taking a moment to share love with all of those who are not doing ok. Who are missing loved ones. Who are hoping 2024 is a better year than the last. You are not alone.

These kids built this beautiful canoe, in community, over the last two weeks, at Maawnjiding Wiingushkeng. It was an incredibly successful launch. @MsNReynolds @PeelSchools @PDSBDirector @lisanhart13

I so deeply admire the voice for change and strong leadership @miaamormottley brings to the international stage - especially on climate change. Proud to see Canada host this meeting of leaders for the first time.
I have joined my colleagues in Ottawa to participate in the Canada-CARICOM Summit. The two-day meeting is historic and important as we are meeting against a global climate of great and grave uncertainty.

This news brought me so much joy today. @GregFergus brings a style of leadership to the @HoCSpeaker role we need in this moment. Kind, thoughtful, and most importantly, hopeful. #cdnpoli

Truly lovely International Women’s Day connecting with & honouring women who dare to lead. Tonight I’m reminded of the Audre Lorde quote: “When I dare to be powerful—to use my strength in the service of my vision—then it becomes less & less important whether I am afraid”

So lovely reconnecting with @OntLiberal friends at the #OLPAGM this weekend. I (really) needed those hugs. Sharing my theme song from the weekend: 🎶The world won’t get no better, if we just let it be … we’ve gotta change it yeah, just you and me 🎶 youtu.be/OOxoeGL3tTo

Need to take a moment to thank @HospiceWindsor for their incredible care for my dad Clevester Gooch Jr, during his final hours these past few days I’ve admired their work for many years, not knowing that one day it would be my own family using their service. TY🙏🏾 & Goodbye Papa

“What I’ve learned is that every day doesn't have to be great. It doesn’t even have to be good or decent. It can just be, and tomorrow is another chance.” Thank you for writing this @MelaynaWilliams 🤍
