I'm no longer using Twitter. Find me on Mastodon: @gravitystorm@gravitystorm.co.uk m.gravitystorm.co.uk/@gravit… Oh, and stop following me here, so I know we both know that I've gone!

On Saturday, 6 days after the snow fell and froze, I wanted to know if @RBKingston had treated any of the borough's major cycle routes. Here's what I found:🌨️🌨️❄️❄️🚴

They had plenty of time to deal with this. There are grit bins right there. These are major routes used by hundreds of people walking and cycling every day, and yet they just put up some "good luck, you'll need it" signs and simply walked away.

Actions speak louder than words. Over those six days of treating roads, with complete inaction on pavements and major cycle routes - the message from @RBKingston has been loud and clear.

This is an interesting read - Harry does a good job of articulating some of the complexity around triaging pull requests for openstreetmap-website 🌍

New diary entry "London pub meet-up and other updates": openstreetmap.org/user/Harry… ...including getting paid by OSMF to do development work!

I've just been pointed to the idea of UK "Quiet Lanes", which have a sign a bit like Home Zones. Here's some in Suffolk - quietlanessuffolk.co.uk/what… . But the first one I check on OSM has a 60mph speed limit!? Is that common? Sounds unsuitable for walking and cycling, really.

These changes also simplify the CI, Docker and Vagrant scripts, and remove some code (which is always nice). But most importantly they simplify the installation steps, so our future developers will have fewer steps to get themselves up and running!
Kingston Council have closed the only safe bike route across the Thames from Kingston, and are instructing cyclists to join 5 lanes of heavy traffic on A308 bridge. Do any Kingston Councillors look at this situation and think "that looks fine, I'll take my kids here tomorrow"?

The @RBKingston Highways Team have concluded that adding an A-frame sign to encourage drivers to be "cautious" is sufficient to ensure safety. Which is, to put it as politely as I can manage, utterly derisible. x.com/KingstonCycling/status… #KingstonBridgeCycleLane

Response from Kingston Council on the closure of the two-way #KingstonBridgeCycleLane. Someone in "Highways" says that a temporary cycle lane wouldn't be acceptable in part due to air pollution that would result. If you don't accept this response please email your councillors.
