In 2024, St Margaret's Old Boys won the Centenary Trophy. Captain Connah and vice-captain Jake didn't lift the cup alone. They invited Reg up with them.
Reg had been part of the club since almost the beginning. Welfare, first aid, everything in between. That season, he was seriously ill. But he gave everything to be at as many games as he could. Unfortunately, Reg passed away last year.
"I know that was such a proud moment for him. A culmination of so many years of effort," says
@gregmclean92, who founded the club with his dad.
Greg has worn more hats in grassroots football than almost anyone. Player, referee, club founder, league secretary,
@Cheshire_FA deputy CEO, now CEO of
@isfafootball overseeing 360 schools and 100,000 young players.
But when you ask him what it all comes back to, it's never the job titles. It's the people. A dad who managed the team. A volunteer who never missed a game. A group of teammates who texted back "absolutely made up for you" when he came out.
Grassroots football doesn't work without those relationships. We sat down with Greg on The Grassroots Hotline to hear the full story.
