Final line on Chase Hampton: 3 innings, 3 hits, 2 earned runs, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts, 61 pitches (35 strikes). Had some command issues, committed two balks and allowed a double. Not sure why he threw only 61 pitches, which he threw in his last start at High-A six days. But today was also Jack Cebert’s throw day and he’s now in the game. So that likely played into it. Yankees’ No. 8 prospect experiencing some growing pains in his return from Tommy John surgery with a 6.00 ERA in 7 starts.

Will have a fun story next week on Somerset 1B/OF Nick Torres, who has had a super unique journey in pro ball. Torres, 32, was a 2014 4th-round pick of the Padres and played indy ball in Mexico from 2019-25 before the Yankees came calling last December with a minor league contract. "I definitely was not expecting to be back here, so this is quite the blessing to be playing baseball in the country I was born and raised in," the California native told me a little while ago in a lengthy 1-on-1.

Chase Hampton is back in Double-A ... 22 months after his season ended in 2024 because he needed Tommy John surgery. The Yankees' No. 8 prospect has made six "rehab" starts this season in Low-A and High-A: 19 innings, 19 strikeouts, 6 walks, 12 earned runs, 3 home runs. Hampton threw 62 pitches in his last start six days ago.

Yankees’ power development in Double-A has been impressive. Patriots got to 100 HRs seven games faster than any AA team has in the research tool era (since 2005). On pace for 230 HRs (Somerset set the record in 2022 with 205). Garrett Martin leads the Eastern League with 19.
