$1 billion in funds from the Fed would be an astronomical boost for GSL, but there's an ongoing debate about water augmentation vs. conservation that needs attention. Augmentation = finding water from elsewhere; Conservation = using less water
The entire Western United States is in drought. If $1 billion is spent on augmentation, such as a pipeline from another water source, that's a $1 billion band-aid that will inevitably fall off the wound.
Only by addressing the root cause of this environmental crisis can we safeguard GSL and future generations, which means reducing our water consumption so it's in balance with our desert ecosystem. Conservation, not augmentation, is the only path forward. sltrib.com/news/politics/202…
For those who haven't seen it, the University of Utah's Great Salt Lake Project and Grow The Flow released a 2026 GSL Policy Guide to give some context to the current legislative session. What are some of the key take aways?
Big news! 🎬 The Great Salt Lake hits the big screen at Sundance. For two years, filmmakers followed GTF Executive Director @thermokarst, @briansteed1, and others on the front lines of the fight to save GSL. Watch THE LAKE starting Jan. 2 in Park City. festival.sundance.org/progra…
The latest UT High-Risk List was published, and "UT's Water Needs" and "Water Infrastructure" are in the top 2 spots. Key takeaways? Ag water optimization hasn't yet demonstrated effectiveness, and there's a desperate need for increased water data collection. s3.documentcloud.org/documen…
This Thanksgiving, we’re grateful for every person fighting to bring Great Salt Lake back to healthy lake levels.
Thank you for being part of the flow. 🌊
"The cheapest gallon of water is the one we don't use." Great Article by the editors at @sltrib, reminding us that conservation is expensive, but not as expensive as finding new water sources for GSL. sltrib.com/opinion/editorial…
