In addition to a strike authorization vote, UAW Local 4811 says it's filing unfair labor practice charges against UCLA over protest crackdown. 'The UCLA Administration has condoned the brutal attack of students and workers as they peacefully protested for justice for Palestine.'

We are alarmed by the USC administration’s response to peaceful on-campus protests organized by USC students. The decision last week to request Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers to forcefully remove and arrest peaceful protestors was an unacceptable violation of their rights, needlessly escalated tensions, and likely chilled the exercise of free speech by students and other members of our community observing the events. Student protests on college campuses are part of a rich tradition of political activism that propels the national conversation on critical issues of human rights and social justice. Students’ right to free speech and assembly must be protected.

Tonight’s deployment of militarized police violence against CUNY and Columbia protestors is horrific and reprehensible. There need to be swift & severe consequences for every university administrator and govt official responsible for these brutal crackdowns on campus protests.

Arresting union members in retaliation for protected concerted activity is not only abhorrent; it’s a clear violation of federal law. The ULP charge USC is now facing is the latest in a slew of rebukes of the administration’s handling of our mass movement of students and workers.
