We are playing the awesome @AfterAllFest this weekend!!!!
Friends old and new come and join the party @thepeerhat on Sat night (on stage at 9). Buzzin to share a stage with so many awesome acts.

See you down the front 🌠🎶🐝💫
I gave an informal talk on the CLASSIX clustering algorithm in our @nla_grp seminar yesterday. It contains some MATLAB and Python live demos. youtube.com/watch?v=Q-CQBEYX…
New work on combining sketching and Krylov subspace recycling with Liam Burke from @MathsTCD and Stefan Güttel @guettel. New algorithm GMRES_SDR and theoretical analysis of sketched GMRES, which we build upon to analyse our new method. arxiv.org/abs/2311.14206
CLASSIX a new clustering method that provides textual and visual explanations of its outputs.
It is also super fast. It clusters 2 million data points in under a second on a laptop where DBSCAN would require an hour. github.com/nla-group/classix…
New work on combining Krylov subspace recycling with randomized sketching for matrix functions and linear systems - arxiv.org/abs/2308.02290 (with Liam Burke @tcddublin)
ALT A plot that shows how Krylov subspace recycling helps to reduce the error when solving a sequence of 20 problems while updating an augmentation space from one problem to the next. The new recycling method is rFOM, and srFOM is its combination with sketching.
#Manchester we are delighted to announce we will be returning to stage again @Gulliversmcr this Sept!
Buzzin to be sharing the stage with such fantastic lineup curated by @afterallmusico1

A sketch-and-select Arnoldi process. Using randomized sketching to compute a relatively well-conditioned basis of a Krylov space at low cost. Usually much better than truncated Arnoldi. arxiv.org/abs/2306.03592 (with Igor Simunec @scuolanormale)
ALT A MATLAB plot comparing the condition numbers of Krylov bases computed with eight different quasi-orthogonalization processes.
We are delighted that our #KTP with @Arup has been recognised as being Outstanding! ✨🏆
A massive congratulations and well done to all involved!

Congratulations to Xinye Chen (@chenxinye2) who successfully defended his PhD thesis on "Fast aggregation-based algorithms for knowledge discovery" today. Many thanks to the examiners @TAH_Sci and @sdrelton and good luck for the next chapter Xinye! #proudsupervisor
ALT Dr Xinye Chen, who just passed his PhD viva, with supervisor in front of the University of Manchester's new Engineering Campus MECD
Great to have @jitseniesen from @mathsleedsuni visiting us @ManUniMaths with a very interesting talk on 'Plasma simulations using Vlasov equations and particle-in-cell methods'
Congrats to Chris Hickey @ArupUK for this achievement! Chris did a fantastic job making eigensolvers developed in our group (@nla_grp & @tisseurf) available to a global user base of @Oasys_Software. Funded by @innovateuk
Congrats to Chris Hickey 🥉 (@ArupUK), Arkady Way 🥇 (@OxfordStats) and Jenny Power 🥈(@jennypowerhour, @MathsatBath) on their medal wins at @STEM4Brit yesterday! A true celebration of excellent mathematical research. Well done to them and the 17 other finalists for 2023 👏
