Several WHITE women said they would be willing to give up their right to vote if it meant creating a more conservative country, according to interviews conducted at the Turning Point USA Women’s Leadership Summit in San Antonio, Texas.
Some attendees argued that their husbands could represent their interests politically, while others emphasized traditional gender roles and family values. However, reports from the event also noted that support for women’s voting rights remained the majority view among attendees.
The comments have sparked debate online, with critics pointing to the long struggle that led to the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which guaranteed women the right to vote in the United States.

107 years ago, today, Wisconsin became the first state to ratify the #19thAmendment to the United States Constitution, marking a crucial step towards granting women the right to vote.
#OTD 1919: Congress approved the woman's suffrage amendment and sent it to the states for ratification. Adding the amendment to the Constitution required ratification by 3/4 of the states, which at that time was 36 of 48.

Kansas tried it. “A federal judge struck down the law within a few years, after it was found to have blocked tens of thousands of eligible voters from registering while catching fewer than thirty noncitizens trying to do the same.” Go ahead and try to take women’s right to vote away, which is what this is, btw. It will backfire on MAGA and the tears will be flowing…don’t think for a minute that middle class white lefties will let this slide- there are already fundraisers and plans to empower urban black and brown American women to obtain the documents needed to vote. @reprandyfinee - Your ignorance and racism is disgusting. #19thamendment

#OTD in #history, 1906, Susan B. Anthony passed away. She left our world 14 years before the #19thAmendment. Though, perhaps, no person was more responsible for its adoption. Decades prior, she was arrested for voting. But as she understood: “Nothing is hopeless that is right.”
