Don't let goobers on X bully you into changing your whole setup if you can use it competently. There are a lot of miserable people here who love to belittle others for having different opinions. Even if you like AFGs, VFGs or underbarrel flame throwers. Strut yo stuff, queen.

I like AFGs for shooting. I like VFGs for patrolling. I like my wacky sharkfin design for both

Both AFGs & VFGs are best for long patrols. Besides, no one is using a baracade (sp) in combat

I either run slick or I use VFGs from arisaka as they are comparatively short and smol when compared to most of the VFGs out there. But I'm also old enough to remember when the KAC and Surefire VFGs were the thing. I tried the magpul AFGs (both gens) but never quite liked them

I think that Botkin’s perspective is an edge case. Shooters’ preference ultimately trumps all else. I’m just waiting for AFGs/VFGs to flood the used market now lol

Been using AFGs instead, and they work well enough. I did start putting on some grip tape too, haven't had a chance to put it through its paces yet.

Are small index only style AFGs as bad as VFGs? I run this on my 11.3”. My wrists are FUBAR so I can’t C-clamp.

You believe that the likelihood of all AR-15s being classified as machine guns and AFGs being treated like VFGs are the same?
11
For now. The reasoning they use to say that VFGs make AOWs implicates AFGs as well, they just don't mention it by name. Ultimately it is a measure of your risk tolerance, so if you choose to add one, more power to you i guess.

>often arbitrary And can change at any given moment, which is why you shouldn't put AFGs on pistols, given that AFGs making AOWs is apples to apples with VFGs making AOWs for the same exact reason.

Read the rest of the thread, the reasoning behind VFGs making AOWs is the same as AFGs making AOWs. I need to go help someone move so I will likely be gone until tomorrow, at which point I will continue this discussion if necessary.

AFGs on pistols have absolutely no such protections*

I do think that they won't target actual handguns like comp pistols or gen 6 Glocks due to the large number that are owned, but AFGs have absolutely no such protections.

Ah, so when you said, "it isn't an AOW", what you meant was "it is an AOW, he just won't get punished for it". Also, the current legal doctrine (the opinions of individual ATF agents) can turn on a dime to reflect what the law actually says at any moment, at least with AFGs

The only reason it would be exclusive to VFGs is if they are mentioned by name in the statute, and they are not. The reasoning used to determine VFGs as AOW makers implicates AFGs as well. Your pistol and handguard examples might work, but AFG/VFG is apples to apples.

What is special about VFGs that make them AOW makers, but is absent from AFGs?
7
>A vertical foregrips sole reason for existing is that it's for holding the weapon with two hands. Hence adding one is redesigning it. Ok, so what is different with AFGs?

Read the highlighted portion of this screenshot. VFGs make AOWs because they are designed, soley and exclusively, to accept a second hand. What are AFGs designed to do? If it is the same as a VFG then both make AOWs.

What is special about VFGs? VFGs - Designed and intended to accept a second hand. AFGs - Designed and intended to accept a second hand. Nothing in the AOW statute mentions VFGs by name. If it is designed and intended to be fired from two hands, it is not a pistol.
