Serial Taxi Driver Rapist Jailed For Life In Lancashire. A ruthless and cruel sex offender who spent decades targeting young and vulnerable women has been handed a life sentence after being convicted of subjecting two women with learning difficulties to a series of horrific rapes and sexual assaults. Shah Nawaz, 70, from Accrington, Lancashire, was branded an extremely dangerous predatory sexual offender by a judge as he was jailed at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. A former taxi driver whose cab was once his hunting ground for victims, pleaded guilty to six counts of rape, six counts of sexual assault, and two counts of assault by penetration against two women he had befriended before betraying their trust in the most sickening way. Nawaz’s campaign against women stretches back more than four decades. In 1982, as a younger man, he offered a lift home to a young woman before raping her in the passenger seat of his taxi. Six years later, in 1988, he took a teenager to a nightclub, plied her with drink until she was unconscious, then raped her. Both early victims were teenagers. He struck again around the mid-1990s, raping and threatening to kill a 15-year-old girl. After serving just 18 months of a four-year sentence, he was released. In 1998 he was jailed for 10 years after attacking a 16-year-old virgin. He spiked her drinks before the rape in an assault that echoed his previous behaviour. At the time, reports highlighted his status as a father-of-six who had already escaped with a light sentence for that earlier attack on the 15-year-old. Judge Robert Altham described Nawaz as a serious, dangerous, predatory sexual offender with previous convictions of a similarly troubling nature. He imposed a life sentence with a minimum term of 13 years and 362 days, roughly 14 years meaning Nawaz will be in his mid-80s before he can apply for parole. The two latest victims were both highly vulnerable. The first, a 19-year-old care leaver with long-standing needs who was mentally and emotionally younger than her years, was befriended by the much older man. In the summer of 2025, he lured the trusting 19-year-old into his car, where he ignored her desperate pleas to stop before raping and sexually assaulting her, then coldly dressed her afterwards. The traumatised young woman later confided in her carers about the horrifying ordeal. The second victim, a woman in her 40s with a diagnosed learning disability who needed carer support and was described as incapable of saying no, suffered repeated attacks at Nawaz’s home and her own residence. He would turn up at night, strip her, and rape her despite her telling him to stop. In victim impact statements, both women spoke of ongoing trauma, anxiety, sleepless nights, and fear that Nawaz could one day be released. One said she keeps her blinds down and stays indoors, the other worried she would need protection if he ever walks free. Nawaz initially denied everything and was due to stand trial, forcing his victims to give evidence and face cross-examination. He changed his pleas to guilty at the last moment. Detectives praised the bravery of the two women and said the sentence would protect other vulnerable people in the community. They urged any other potential victims to come forward. Shah Nawaz will now spend the rest of his days behind bars, but for his victims and the many others whose lives he ruined over more than 40 years, justice has come far too late. #UKNews #CrimeNews #Lancashire

A 70-year-old man from Accrington man has been given a life sentence for raping and sexually assaulting two vulnerable women. Shah Nawaz targeted his victims after befriending them. The women didn’t know one another and were preyed upon by Nawaz on different occasions. Nawaz had a history of sexual offending, with him jailed in 1982 for rape and then for sexual offences in 1988 – both his victims in those cases being teenagers. When sentenced at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday (10th June), Nawaz was described by Judge Robert Altham as being an ‘extremely dangerous, predatory sexual offender.' The judge passed a life sentence, with Nawaz ordered to serve a minimum of 13 years and 362 days in prison before he is eligible to apply for parole. One of his victims was a woman in her 20s who had learning difficulties, Nawaz raping and sexually assaulting her in his car. The second victim was aged in her 40s and she too had learning difficulties. Nawaz, formerly of Gloucester Avenue, Accrington, committed offences against her at his home and where she lived. Initially, Nawaz denied the offences and was due to go on trial at Burnley Crown Court. His two victims both gave evidence and were cross-examined, after which Nawaz pleaded guilty to six charges of rape, six charges of sexual assault and two charges of assault by penetration.

A man who tried to murder a toddler was caught in the act by the child's mother on her baby monitor. Lewis Prince, 29, denied intending to commit murder, instead admitting to assaulting the child. However it took less than two hours for a jury to see through his lies, and convict the factory worker of attempted murder for punching, strangling and smothering the two-year-old The sickening incident was caught on camera, when the child's mother checked a baby monitor app on her phone, as she routinely would when leaving the home. That morning, he had been asked to watch the child at its Blackpool home and as the child cried, Prince launched his assault at which point the child's mum happened to log onto an app. She ran back home as the child screamed helplessly. During the trial, four, six-second recordings of the attack which saw Prince punching and slapping the toddler were played to court. In the footage, he is seen grabbing the child's neck, pinning them down and repeatedly throwing them down as he attempted to get back up. At one stage, he stood on the child to pin them to the ground. In the struggle, Prince, himself a dad-of-two, left the room to get an ice pack for the child and returned with a bag of frozen peas which he pushed onto their face, causing more distress. Sentencing, Judge Robert Altham noted this was "clearly not done out of concern but to cover up what he had done". When the mum got home, she ran up the stairs and pushed Prince out of the way to get to her child. But, in a bid to cover his wrongdoing, Prince pinned her down, grabbed her arm and tried to stop her calling the police. Prince denied hurting the child demanding the mother showed him bruises. The woman was eventually able to run to neighbours to call 999 and resisted his pleas to come with her. He instead drove away alone but was arrested before he could make it home. Meanwhile, the baby was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital. Prosecuting, Alex Langhorn said a paramedic who attended reported seeing bruises "as you would get at a boxing match, that's the only time I've seen any bruising like that". The child has since gone on to make a full recovery. Judge Altham disagreed with the author of a pre-sentencing report and said Prince should be classified as a dangerous offender. He said a whole life sentence was not merited but said Prince should only be released upon a parole board decision after at least two thirds of his sentence. He said: "For someone to be able to do this to a small child without any real motivation, it's necessary for there to be a check on him before he is released to the public". The judge handed down a 30 year extended sentence which is made of a 26 year custodial element and a four year extended licence. He will only be eligible for parole after 20 years. A restraining order blocking any communication with the child was issued indefinitely but no restraining order was issued in relation to the mother.
