Middle class mothers in nice cars behind garden centre thefts amid shoplifting epidemic Retailers across Britain report that well to do middle class women driving nice cars are leading a surge in thefts from garden centres with the problem worsening in the past year. The Horticultural Trades Association says the sector lost 16 million pounds to retail crime as thefts shifted from small items to larger goods including wax jackets scented candles and designer soft toys. Seventy one percent of HTA members see theft as a major issue while individual thefts can cost up to £6000 and nine in ten rural retailers have been affected at an average cost of £83000 each. Garden centres remain vulnerable due to open outdoor layouts multiple entry points and stock displayed in accessible areas making it easy for organised groups to target high value products. Over 90 percent of these businesses are family owned and many lack funds to install better security such as gated plant sections or additional staff near tills. Retailers have tried raising displays moving impulse buys closer to checkouts and cutting back on high risk stock but the epidemic continues to hit small businesses hard.

Andy Burnham allies plot Labour leadership coup just hours after victory it has been claimed Allies of Andy Burnham are planning a coordinated challenge against Keir Starmer if Burnham wins the Makerfield by election with more than 100 Labour MPs set to demand a timetable for his departure from No 10. The plot includes gathering signatures from at least 81 backbenchers to trigger a formal leadership contest under party rules along with resignations from ministers up to Cabinet level. Burnham is expected to hold a victory rally in Makerfield as the launchpad for the challenge while No 10 has prepared for possible departures from senior figures including Ed Miliband and Rachel Reeves. Recent resignations by John Healey and Al Carns have added to the pressure on the Prime Minister amid claims that two thirds of the Cabinet now want him gone. Keir Starmer has insisted he will fight any leadership bid stating it would be out of duty to the country rather than personal reasons. Labour sources say the majority of the Parliamentary Labour Party now believe the time has come for Starmer to step down and that the challenge will extend well beyond Burnham supporters. They believe Reform UK will lose due to restore UK splitting the right wing vote so that Andy will cruise to victory.

A shadowy government unit set up by former MI6 officer is working to control narratives around racial tensions The Research Information and Communications Unit or RICU is a 22 strong team based in the Home Office and was established in 2007 by the late Charles Farr a former MI6 officer. After the June 8 2026 stabbing in Belfast of Stephen Ogilvie allegedly by 30 year old Sudanese asylum seeker Hadi Alodid RICU advised police to identify online protesters and portray them as unsympathetic thugs rather than activists. RICU has also briefed family liaison teams in cases such as the murder of Henry Nowak in Southampton and intervened to shape statements from victims families in racially linked incidents. The unit has used undercover operatives to plant stories in the media and in 2016 funded a boyband to tour Muslim schools singing songs against radicalisation. A 2023 RICU report was criticised for flagging certain TV shows and authors as potential far Right indicators while applying a higher bar to Islamism according to reviewers. Home Office sources confirm RICU provides analysis on extremist propaganda and its operations remain part of the counter terrorism system. dailymail.com/news/article-1…
