I'm going to be delivering two talks at the ASE Conference in January. One on AI in Primary Science and one on Essential Tech Tools for Primary Science Teachers. More details here 2025aseannualconf.sched.com/…#asechat#aseconf#aseconf2025
Ready for my first time chairing @theASE Education Group. Looking forward to discussions on curriculum review, professional learning, sustainability and # ASEConf 2025. Peppermint tea & kit-kat, tidied the office - here we go
It has been pointed out that there were visa issues @aseconf and there were also visa issues at ICSE in Lisbon. This is why #icse2025 will open registration in a couple of weeks, and why many deadlines have set early so people get acceptances for many tracks by mid December.
Also, how can we justify that a large proportion of Chinese authors, now the largest group of contributors, cannot come and present their work in a supposedly international conference? This is neither ethical nor viable.
Agree. This is getting worse and unacceptable. Students with visas in the US would be affected but US universities can lobby their government. Other governments have little say in what the US does and don’t have to accept such arbitrariness. I am all for Mexico, as a Canadian :-)
True, real problem. However, based on current trends, I expect that the fraction of papers by presenters from abroad (and thus potentially affected presentations) will increase....
That would make things worse for students with visas who are studying in the US and can't easily leave. Which is worse?
(The US visa system needs to be fixed regardless of course)
It's unforutnate how many presenters at @aseconf are unable to attend due to Visa issues, and have to resort to remote/proxy presentations.
Perhaps @ICSEconf@FSEconf and ASE should consider North American locations (like Mexico) where these visa issues are less severe.
Fascinating and thought provoking key note from Angela Saini: The challenges of understanding race, gender and history in science and expert chairing and conversation with @Sarah_Cosgriff #Inclusion#ASEConf#ScienceIsEverywhere#BeCurious
