A6 I think it’s always nice when they can take a new piece of info & then see a patient case with that disease state or antibiotic use, really helps to support retention with application, getting an active learning, hands on experience so to speak #ASPChat

A6.b. Tying information to stories and things learners care about helps them remember information. What they will need in their job. How it applies to a family member with a disease. Relating it to something they naturally are interested in. #ASPchat

A5. I tell every class of residents that once upon a time I asked my APPE coordinator not to put me in an ID rotation. I didn't think I was smart enough to do ID. Point is that even if you feel intimidated now, you may learn to love it! #ASPchat

A5. I provide a list of anti-MRSA and anti-PSA abx. If you can start there with your bug-drug spectrum, that's a huge start for most hospital antimicrobial stewardship activities. Don't try to learn everything at once #ASPchat

Acquaint them with the existence of gray areas in ID and help them become more comfortable living there. The black/white answers they can learn with time/experiences, the gray will persist until we know more and that’s okay. We’re all learning together. #ASPchat

I agree: re memorization. Trainees often overestimate the importance of memorization and underestimate the importance of knowing where and how to find the answer #ASPChat
